I've read that alot of cars cannot take full advantage of 100 octane or higher fuel because the ecu can only adjust upto 95 or so. Is this true, and if it is wouldn't it be better to settle for less and save your money?

i used to run enough 100 octane in my tank to get to about 93 last summer because it was hotter than isht and i wanted a little extra safety margin. i never really noticed a performance difference and definitely didn't notice a mileage difference.

Like RussB, I dump in a few gallons just as insurance if I know I'm going to run the car hard at the drags, a drive in the foothills, or a day at Thunderhill. Or occasionally, just for the hell of it.

Yeah, the tank is 15.9 gallons. But it's only the first time that you have to worry about that. The first time you put 4 gallons of 100 in to average out to ~ 93.26 octane.

>>>> After that though, you don't put 4 in because you don't run your tank dry. Whatever is left in your tank is already mixed at 93+ octane. So you only have to add the appropriate amount for however much you're about to put in the car. I think most of us probably fill our tanks right about when the light comes on or sooner, so we're probably putting 12 to 13.5 gallons in at the station. That's why I suggested using 3 gallons of 100 on a regular basis. (3/13)*100 + (10/13)*91 = 93.08 octane. <<<<

If you don't have a calculator handy, the 3:1 ratio 91:100 comes out pretty close, erring on the safe side. (that would be 9 gallons 91 and 3 gallons 100 if you're filling with 12 gallons, etc... as you can see above, that would be more than necessary because you could cut it with another gallon of 91 and still be over 93 net)

4aghumper -- Ash on here would probably be more than happy to set up a group buy deal for any amount of Torco. When I see him tonight I'll tell him to look out for this thread so he can provide some input on the stuff...

I attached a 76-supplied 91/100 octane mixing chart and a modified one here.

Hey I pm'd Ash and told him to swing by this thread. Hopefully he'll see it tomorrow and can talk about a group buy possibility or something similar.

As for gas mileage: I've been keeping a gas log for like 9 months now. Reset the trip ODO every time I fill and always fill to the same level (until the pump clicks off and then a top-off of 0.1 gallons), then divide the miles I've driven by the amount of gallons that it took. Anyway, never noticed a change due to running or not running something to boost the octane. In theory you could get tuned a bit leaner because of it, but without tuning I have never seen any change.

The thing that affected my gas mileage more than anything ever has is altitude. The few tanks I've done at 5,000 feet got MUCH better mileage than here at sea level.

Hey guys, Sorry it took so long to catch up with this thread. I've been running torco in every tank for over 25k miles. I feel good about selling it now because I've had huge success with it. My brother in-laws viper has about 65k on it. it pings and knocks crazy loud if you romp on it at high speed. 16oz of torco (half can) and it runs way smoother and no sign of detonation.

My care is tuned on 16 oz of torco per tank. That's pretty close to 93.5 octane. There are minimum octane numbers printed on the can but all measured with 93 octane to start. Like EJ20legacy I used to go to the 100 pump every tank. That doesn't work so good for long trips though. or for the people that dont live near a 100 pump. So I tried running my 100/91 mix UTEC map with torco and I actually had less knock than with 4.5 gallons of 100 unleaded per tank. I'm not a math wiz so I'll spare you guys inaccurate octane numbers. I do know what my UTEC logs say and fact is torco worked better at 16 oz to a tank than 4.5 gallons of 100 unleaded per tank.

I've worked hard to get the best price I can from torco. I was told last time I ordered it that the price was as low as it could get even if I ordered 1000 cases. It comes in 32 oz cans is cases of six.

This is not a bussiness for me. I'll sell it to anyone at Thursday BDG's meet for $12.50 a can or $70 a case. Just contact me before and I'll bring it.

Thanks,

Ash

The fact you have knock with a custom utec map is not good at all.
A good octane booster that has worked well for my Kawasaki for test rides is BLENDZALL. It doesn't run on 91 and this is what I have found to actually work. I'll try that NOS brand this summer sometime.

The map I had on my UTEC would knock once in a while when I was loaded with passengers and hammering uphill. It's normal behavior for a UTEC. I wanted to see how good the torco was so I put two other people in my car and climbed about 2000ft. No knock at all and I was trying. That's really what made me a believer. I've never heard of that stuff... Do you have a link or more info?

Ash

The Torco is also less expensive than NOS brand ($9.95) or any of the other cans over $6.50 for that matter, which is all of them AFAIK. The Torco is $12.50 per 32oz can and you use half of the can to get to ~ 93.5 octane like Ash mentioned. That makes it a heck of a deal!
