I can't change that. It does include lunch though. I like the smaller venue as well. I can't do a lot with cones, I get lost. The altamont is much easier to follow. Either way, hope a few of you would give it a try. I run with the NASA events as well & I have a great time at both. I also love beating my buddies time around the track & NASA HPDE isn't good for that with no timer & tons of traffic, but it is fun in it's own way. The answer=do both. I will be at Laguna on Oct 1st.
Well... you have to keep in mind that the SFR SCCA Solo2 stuff is fairly competitive. I do agree that the pricing is better, but you have to keep in mind that what you are doing and what the SCCA does are separate things. Don't get me wrong. I think what you are doing is great. That is why I am interested, but I think that you have to be careful when you compare the two. Your event, I would assume, is more of a recreation based event. The event that the SCCA puts on is more toward a competitive event.

Just my two cents.

But having your car in a very safe environment with very little walls or other cars is worth the piece of mind for some people. For those contemplating going, atleast give it a try before you decide to never do it. It's 80 dollars and I'm sure you can do it once and see if you like it.

side note. NASA is pretty cheap compared to most clubs that run track days. I've seen track days for 225 for one day but for the amount of seat time you get it's worth it.
Does NASA require a membership fee? I am not sure which it is, but I know one of the organizations do.

I completely agree onion. Glad we are on the same page. I didn't try to compare based on who is better. We are there just for fun, but......you do get times & we have a configuration we run everytime that I am keeping track of who has the fastest times. I post the times at the event so you can keep track as you go.
As far as course length, it is tough to make it over a minute. The bigger course is over a 1/2 mile so just adding more twists & turns is doable, but I like a little more open route so I can get a bit more speed. Coming from a high HP front wheel drive car, the more open the more fun for me in my mind.

Of course any ideas you have are always valued.

NASA does have a membership. I don't recall what (it's less than SCCA), but it does come with a subscription to Grassroots Motorsports magazine.

I agree with what is being said here about comparing the different events. This autox event sounds like it is somewhere in between autox and a track day (sort of like the new rallyx events at ThunderHill sound like they are going to be in between a rallyx and a rally sprint)

Its great to have so many different types of events being organized in our area.

Did I mention prizes? I am getting a couple shops to donate some stuff for various event/class winners. Just to make things a tad more fun. I would love to get a couple more "shop cars" out there so they can have bragging rights. Lol

I had a lot of fun at the first Altamont track day that Jason (SRT4geezer) put on. Its a lot of fun. And with the ovals open, it will be even more fun.

Here is the videos we made of that day.

Enjoy

And Here's the second vid. This was the last run of the day

i cant stand when people complain about track time at autoX's! 2.789950234 minutes!!! WAHHH!!! and act as if its their only time they drive their car fast...

you pay $40 for the results...i dont know who thinks that driving around cones on a flat plane is more fun than hitting up flowy dipped esses and banked turns on a sweet road.

sounds cool though, ive been wanting to do the mini road course

Go do a track day and then see if your attitude towards "behind the wheel" time changes a bit.

I understand that the competition of autox is a huge factor, I fully believe that it is for many people. For me, I'm not competitive (especially when things like a rear sway bar or ALK bumps me way up in class) so I autox for the fun, or for the competition with my friends (who have similairly modded cars as me). Top onto that a full day at the track (which is exhausting for most people) and really, I'm disappointed in the seat time at autox's.

But I'm getting off topic. This Altamont things sounds GREAT and I hope it works out well and continues. We can never have enough venues. I would definitely choose this over a regular autox.

yeah...

i'll pay $80 to be timed at Altamont but paying $200+ for a track day that isnt timed doesnt make sense for me and my budget

i make $400 a month + gas and burritos money commuting from SantaCruz to SF and Mtn View twice a week if that helps at all haha

Well, then, maybe not now for you. But hopefully one day you'll be able to experience a track day. I don't see how driving fast on the street (even dangerously, which I don't encourage) can ever approach the feel of a track day.

Seriously.

Track day: WOT 2nd, WOT 3rd, WOT 4th, HARD BRAKE, turn in rotate and hear the singing squeal of the limit of traction, roll on throttle kiss the berm at the apex, unwind to WOT (never looking at speedo) and repeat. Never worry about cross traffic or cops and let the flaggers alert you to the hazards.

You can't get close to that on the street without putting yourself and others in danger, risk getting ticketed or arrested, or damaging your car. Plus no flaggers on the street telling you a bunch or leaves or smushed tomatoes are just around the bend at your corner exit.

Oh yeah... and when you're going faster than the car ahead of you at the track... THEY POINT YOU BY TO PASS. Tell me when that EVAR happens on the street, especially here in America.

I think for most of not all road racing guys, the fun is in the corner, not the straight away or high speed. I'm sure taking the car up to 100+ is fun once or twice, but the reason why most of us that go to auto-x or track and NOT a quarter mile strip is because of the twist and turns. We love the skill challenge of a corner. We love mountain roads. Being able to take corners is challenging. Flooring the car on a straight is something anyone can do.

Also another suggestion, you should, if people like competition, make this a series event with points and prize at the end of the year. I mean it'll go great on a race car aspiring driver to put down "won 1st place in srtgeezer series". If you can organize something like that, I bet more people would show up.

Something like how the auto-x series is structured.

well said.

its like going to space camp and never planning to go to space lol.

i need to keep my 2.5's momentum up...thats when skill outshines the extra 150 HP the STis are using in hopes to beat slower cars.

i love Altamonts track, even though i think they couldve played with banking/desing a little bit better.

oh but then teh drit0rs wouldnt want the banking....wahhhhhh!
