Noise in engine bay question

I changed my oil today, put on new front brakes, and took out the intake silencer. And then when i started driving again i noticed a high pitch whining noise when accelerating and is boosting. Now i dont associate anything i did today with that noise. but could this be exhaust leak? i mean this noise is really annoying. I am not losing any boost and the car runs fine. but i cant really pin point the noise because it is so loud sometimes. any ideas? anyone want to take a ride in my car and let me know?

thanks

HAPPY NEW YEAR BY THE WAY!

this would be unrelated to the changes you made, but sometimes a new sound can be because one of the little rubber pieces that plug holes in the firewall fell out. try checking under your pedals to make sure the little rubber circle pieces are still there.

if you take out the intake silencer.. depending on ur other mods.. I think you can hear the turbo spool .. which could be that noise your are hearing.. but it shouldn't be loud pitch ....

you are most likely just hearing the spool.

turbo spool because of intake silencer being removed. You can get the air getting sucked into the intake now instead of the silencer cancelling it out...

The only times I've hear that before it was either an UP or DP leak, usually the UP. Check for carbon build-up on any of the gaskets you can see to help pinpoint the leak.

Like the above post said, I would definately check for carbon build up first as this is most likely an exhaust or boost leak. What part of norcal are you in?

high pitch whine, like a 5 year old in your engine bay screaming bloody murder? You didn't tighten down one of the screws for the boost somewhere, be it the bov or the y-pipe behind the turbo, or the screws on the intercooler pipe going to the throttle body, Joel's has done that a couple times...

you're supposed to put 5 year olds in the trunk, thats your problem

My initial guess would be you're hearing spool, but could be a leak creating a high pitched whistle

I have an '06 WRX wagon and I hear a ticking sound that is simliar to a "lawn motor type sound" whenever I accelerate/decelerate around 2500-5000 rpms...is this normal??? I took it to Carlsen to get it checked out but they couldn't hear it even though I could. Only mods are stg 1 AP 2.0.
