They would need to lose from here on out and hope the texans win at least one more. I am not a niners fan (or raiders fan for that matter) but I truly feel that last years pick was not worth it. They should have dumped barlow before the season and drafted Cadillac or Braylon Edwards. I am a die hard Ken Dorsey fan and believe if they gave him as much attention as they do to Smith and Pickett (and as much as they did in Rattay) then he could be an good quarterback. This guy only lost once or twice in college, so he knows how to win. He may not have the arm strength but in a west coast offense he could excel. (I have no idea if the niners are a west coast offense this year or not. BUT the team that invented it should run it until the end of time!)

BUT I DO HOPE THE NINERS GET REGGIE BUSH! I would go watch the niners just to see him.

Yeah but Dorsey also had the #1 team in the nation w/ amazing talent all around him, making his job pretty easy.

Also if the niners get the #1 pick, they won't be able to afford him, w/out going over the salary cap. One pick is not going to turn around their franchise. It didn't this year

Brock Berlin also had a great amount of talent around him and he lost multiple times in just one season. Miami recruits from one of the most, if not the most, talent rich areas in the US, so I agree about great talent surrounding him, but a good percentage of his team was not even drafted. The flip side of that is that the coaching staff has made him the ugly duckling in their 4 man (now 3 man) QB rotation. I definetly agree about one pick not turning this team around since they have so much salary cap space taken up for players no longer with the team.

Actually they have some of the most cap space in the league. Plus some people aren't coming back next season. On a plus note the lost today put us one step closer.

Really? That is a good start (the cap space). I wish they would dump barlow, he is a money pit. Having hearst in his shadow made him do well, with out a legit person to take his job he is just collecting the check. Hopefully over time Frank Gore can take his spot (He seems to be ready to do so, but the $25 million or whatever it is in Barlow is gonna make him hard to move). The Texans still need to win though to make it that much easier to get Bush. One thing to remember is the life span of a halfback in the NFL is ~4 years. I think other teams need to adopt Shanahan's philosophy about the running game, the zone blocking works wonders for his unknown backs.

I am Carolina Panthers, fan so I am happy, especially after they bottled up Vick today. But they were in the same boat as the niners last year (1-7 to start the year) but then they went on a crazy spree and won 6 of their las 8 and screwed us out of a top 5 pick and getting some more playmakers. We really need another receiver or a Franchise QB. Delhomme is alright but he makes some mistakes sometimes, kind of reminds me of Jake Plummer. That and I would like a franchise back since Foster is so injury prone (even though he could be great), and Stephen Davis is in a downward spiral.

DeShaun foster is overrated it makes my brain hurt. And I'm a huge niners fan and i hope they lose out the rest of the season instead of doing what the Warriors always seemed to do which was suck until the last month of the season and then play themselves out of a high draft pick.

Exactly, that is what the panthers did last year, 1-7, we could have had the #1 pick or at least a top 5, and had the Cadillac.

Are we talking about FF or real Niners Football?

Because some of you keep talking about players that I don't think are becoming free agents!

I am not sold on another #1 pick saving the Niners, and agree that they couldn't afford another anyways.

Reggie Bush may need to bulk up a bit to take the beating of the NFL game, where he would figure on getting hit a LOT more than he is currently, always breaking loose for huge gains.

The Niners need serious help at all Offensive line positions, two solid Defensive ends, definately with some (hopefully) injury-free Defensive backs (again all positions), a couple Linebackers, and maybe one solid WR. Oh and they need a dependable Fullback to replace backup Terry Jackson, who has had a tendency to fumble since he was a rookie, and still does.

WR Rashaun Woods and LB Saleem Rasheed need to make a statement next season or both are going to get booted.

i am finding myself to be a texans fan lately so that they will win but it seems like they come up with ways to lose week after week last second field goal by the ravens 2 last minute tds by the rams it almost seems like they are throwing games so they can get bush, domanick davis sure is trying hard to keep his job he hasnt done too bad the last couple weeks.

DE help is not a necessity as burgess (is that the one iono the ravens player) was just signed and by is coming back for sure next year (no retirement). Jackson is the niner's best speacial teamer and hopeuflly they can bring back beasley as i still think he can be good. DB is a priority, LB is oging to be weak when it once was a strength if free agents depart and due to stupid trades like the winborn deal. OL is so tattered, but hopefully the rookies this year, and smiley will step up, maybe newberry gets healthy, jennings gets healthy, pretty much given up on harris. batlle need to be resigned, maybe lloyd, need another receiver as woods was a bust. Im ready to give up on barlow almost, gore is intruiging, hicks is nothing but a change of pace at best. Niners have ALOT of holes and have also been decimated by injuries. Look for a rebound next year when smith learns the offense (not cincinati esque but but respectable at least.) Hopefully the niners get the 1st pick, maybe take bush or trade him for a ransom
