New Sony (Alpha) DSLR-A100
im moving out of 35mm photography (about 5 years as a hobby) and looking for a good Digital SLR at a fair price, been hearing good things about this camera, just wanted to see if anybody has any input on the matter.

canon seems to be the benchmark for digital photo stuff. theyre optics are top of the line. get a rebel xt, xti, 20d, or 30d. all incredible cameras at prosumer prices ranging from like 600-1200 bux. i personally run a rebel xt and love it.

right now i have the 35mm Canon Rebel 2k. (and a few dozen rolls of undeveloped film ^^) so i was thinking about getting the Canon 20D, keep all my lenses (all 2 of them) and all that good stuff. but the new features on the sony 100D such as the super steady shot seem really appealing, on top of that i have a bunch of Sony Memory sticks that i can use with the Sony from my pocket point and shoot cam. although i dont need 10+ megapixels.
how is your rebel with night shots? are the dark spots overly blocky? image noise?

i haven't used the Konica Minolta lenses or the new Sony lenses for the "alpha mount"; however, i do shoot with Canon and my brother uses Nikon. lens system wise, you will be happy with both.
between the two cameras you asked about up above (400D vs 20D), both will have very similar image quality and noise/ISO performance. the jump from 8MP to 10MP is not considerable, so i wouldn't obsess about that. the 400D only goes up to ISO1600 whereas the 20D can be bumped up one extra stop (3200). it's rare that you will need to use 3200 though. both color noise and black noise are also similar for these two cameras.

My EOS350D (rebel XT) is pretty good. I use the 50mm f1.4 lens though. I can get by sometimes w/o needing to crank up the ISO.
Noise compensation on the XT is pretty good, you can shoot ISO 800 w/o noticing much.
nikon d80 + 18-200VR FTW

ok, can people start saying WHY they dont like certain cameras? While other peoples opinions are helpful, its even more helpful to know why they have come to said opinions...ya know?

i forgot to add for dslr, nikon is good too.
imo it is all about a combination of quality, price and ease of use.
A lot of it comes down to personal preference. A key is to actually going to a store and holding them all and making sure it fits well in your hands. I have a digital rebel and it fits well and I like it. The rebel xt is too small in my hands and in order to make it feel ok, I would need to get the extended battery grip thing.
