New to the site, region, and 91 octane
Just arrived from Maryland last week, and my car is currently tuned for 93 octane which doesn't seem to exist in this fair land. So, I have a few questions for you who have been here awhile: is 93 available and I just can't find it, if it isn't available what should I avoid doing until getting a 91 octane tune, where is a good place for AP tuning in the Sacramento area, and finally, how much power should I expect to lose/any way to offset that loss? Sorry for the wall o' questions, looking forward to seeing more of the area.
Welcome to the land of less-octane-too-many-freakin'-rules,Cali. It might be hard to find 93-up octane in your area but someone from the Sac area might be able to chime in. Good luck though !
91 is all you get in California. It's the worst premium in the country. Race gas is available at some pumps, but you need to tune for 91 if you don't want a hassle with every fillup. And go easy on the throttle in the meantime.

Welcome to Cali, the land of 91 octane. There are very few pumps around that have 93 and race gas. You'll definately need to get a good tune to run safely on our less than stellar gas. Shoot me a pm with your setup and I can get you a quote for a good custom tune. We're located in Fairfield which is about 30 minutes from Sacramento.
You can check out the review section and our thread in the classifieds for some of our tuning results.
Thanks

it all depends on your specific setup.
yes you will lose some power going from 93 to 91.
if your car is all stock, or you have simple stg 1-2 applications that fit into Cobb's criteria, you will be fine flashing to the stg 2 ACN (Arizona, California, Nevada Map). if you car is modified beyond the simple bolt ons, you will need to be custome tuned for the elements of which you now live in.
my $0.02, don't beat on the car while you have a 93 map and using 91 octane...it will not benefit you any and could result in issues.
welcome to the area

As it stands I have a VF39, STi intercooler, Invidia up- and down-pipe (catted), and an HKS Hi-Power exhaust. I've been trying to stay below 3500 RPM, so hopefully no harm done.

swap to this map...its for your exact setup. And is safe for you to drive however you want.

.Its a good idea to swap to the Cobb map in the meantime but ultimately you should get a good tune to make sure the car is running safely and optimally.
Thanks

The Cobb maps are good to get the car running relatively safely but they don't run too well overall. The a/f on these maps can be very inconsistent and I've seen a lot of cars experience quite a bit of knock. An OTS map will never run as well as a good custom tune
