New Radar in CA?! (Lidar?)

+1 for this post. You hit the nail on the head.
I have also heard that laser jammers work. Anyone use these, or heard of them? (I'm not talking about the hokey "phantom" jammers).
IIRC, they install on both sides of your license plate and work to 'jam' the laser gun. I have a friend who had some experience with this setup, I'll have to ask him about it. It's pretty expensive, somewhere in the neighborhood of $800 for front and back.

This is GREAT info guys. And I did see that episode of myth busters. Yet...with all this intelligent info, I'm still wondering if a V1 or any other detector is worth it?!

Another post someplace was from a person who appeared to have experience with stealth technology (or he was making stuff up). In a nutshell he (she?) stated that one would need to not only paint the entire inside and outside of the car with a paint that would scatter light and radio waves but that one would need to work to reduce potental reflective surfaces inside and outside of the car to significantly reduce the radar signature. Remember when JCW sold hood bras that were suppose to "soak-up" police radar?

so far only the .GOV agencies/army/military have this anti-radar material. Thing stealth bomber plane, they cost millions of dollars and no civilian could ever get there hands on this stuff.
IIRC, its not only the paint, its also the metals used in the shell of the plane as well.

"the mythbusters" on discovery channel just busted all common forms of radar "jamming" such as reflective prism film to help bounce off radar waves.
Cops are trained to target their laser guns at the most reflective areas of the vehicle, typically the luminescent license plate, or the headlamps. If you have a gooood radar detector with laser detection capabilities, there is a product you can paint over those areas which significantly reduces the laser return. This buys you precious seconds to slow down (while your detector is screaming) before the cop can get a reading. I have heard this setup works quite well. The product is called 'Veil'. Who wants to be the guinea pig? By the way, are laser detectors effective at night? I would think the headlamps would interfere with the cop's aim. Maybe the back license plates or the tail lights would be better targets in that case.
Laser jammers aren't illegal . . . yet, and apparently they work. They've been using laser in Ohio for a couple years now, suprised you guys are just bringing this up now.

"Passive jammers are legal in all states except OK. MN. VA. CA. NE. and Washington, DC Also be aware that VA, Wash. DC bans the use of radar detectors. MN, VA, UT, OK, NB, CA bans the use of radar and laser jammers. "
