new HGs or engine swap?

So instead of fixing the blown headgasket, I just havent driven the forester.

Instead of spending $1500-$2000 to get soemone to do the HGs for me, should I just get a new motor?

When you say "new", do you mean rebuilt or used/another engine?

How many miles on the current engine?

if you can only afford one, why would you buy suspension for a car with a blown motor.

Hows that even a choice??

HG=Head gasket

I was thinking the same thing, Love my Tein HG's but when you look at the cost of a rebuilt engine, you will learn that fixing the head gasket(s) is probably all you can afford- hopefully that is all that is damaged.

damn who does headgaskets for that cheap, lol.

where are you guys getting suspension in this thread? I see someone asking about doing headgaskets (HG's) or a rebuilt motor.

*we literally have a HG job going every single week here...

They were thinking "Tein HG"'s. I was too wondering, "Where the hell is Jeremy getting suspension from?" until Psoper elaborated. LOL.

if u can find a low mileage motor or rebuilt one for around that price it might be a better way to go. but if u are not going to do the work your self it will cost u a lot more than 1500 to 2000 to put in

150,000. Thast why I was leaning towards engine swap. I should have saved my old 2.2 from my outback. It ran like a champ and I could have just dropped it in.

you realize what you just said makes no sense, right?

you dont have or want to spend $1,500-$2,000 but now you want to do a conversion with a STi swap? <-- not sure if you know what that costs but you can go ahead and at min have your $2k x5 (AT MIN).

also your 2.2L would not of worked in your 2.5L forester platform. <-- it would of been a downgrade and would of been a process to make work (depending on what year forester you own).

there is nothing wrong with your motor...do headgaskets/105k stuff (if not done) and it will run for another 100k easily if you take care of it.

My $0.02 <-- coming from a shop who does them daily

I did the engine swap in my OBS. I would buy the engine and swap it all out myself. I know I would need a few other things. I got the (JDM) engine and trans for $900 and I spent a total of about $3k on that one.

I have money for the HG job, and I was thinking I could just do it myself and save most of that money. The problem there is that Im busy, lazy and slow and it will take weeks for me to do it. I could take the same money and the same weeks of time and put a turbo motor in. I see 2.5L STi or WRX engine come up occasionally for $2000-$2500. After I spend a couple more thousand on the wiring and misc parts.

I guess youre right. The smart thing to do is just get it fixed. Its been such a good car and Id probably just introduce reliability issues if I start swapping things around like that. It would just be so cool to have a bad *** SF.
