New Discovery Brings AIDs Breakthrough
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,...est=latestnews
U.S. researchers discovered two powerful antibodies that neutralize more than 90 percent of all known strains of the HIV virus in the lab, new research released Thursday showed.
NIH-led scientists discovered the antibodies known as VRCO1 and VRCO2 that prevent most HIV strains from infecting human cells. The find is a potential breakthrough for advancing HIV vaccine design, and antibody therapy for other diseases

About time!
It's like when you look back hundreds of years ago when we didn't have cures for things like polio and saying "Cmon! that was dumb! What took so long!" They'll hopefully be saying that about us and aids in 200 years.

From what I have been reading about this, they found the antibody, inside our own immune system. It atacks the HIV virus in a way they have never seen before, so now the question will be how to turn this on in everyones body full time.
****** rejoice!
j/k I am always amazed when the scientific community discovers new cures for horrible diseases, and this is one that sorely needed a "cure". Hopefully, they will be able to get this distributed in Africa without drama or profiteering...
edit: CRAZY
it's a protein that attaches itself to the specific site the virus binds to cells, in affect blocking it. How the **** do they do that?!?!?!?

Great that they are making headway on this!
The problem nowadays is that the pharmaceutical companies put money into disease MANAGEMENT rather than curing it, because that'll give them money over a longer period. Yay for capitalism!
