Need tips on maintenance
Okay so I could use some help on maintaining the car with the right fluids since I don't know much about the car.
I was hoping to change the tranny fluid on my car since it's been a while since it got done. When I did my final drive, I added the oil through the small yellow dipstick on the passenger side of the car. So I was curious, is the tranny fluid the same as the final drive fluid?
I'm probably going to get criticized and flamed and what not but I am noob and I admit it. At least I'm trying to take care of the car

By final drive fluid I assume you mean differential fluid? If that's the case, you can use the same weight of oil, but you refill/replace them differently.
The dipstick you added to leads to the transmission. To replace the differential fluid you'll be looking in the rear of the car where the two axles meet. Make sure the car is level.
There are two plugs, fill and drain.
1) Remove the fill plug (top most) with a 1/2" drive. Place a pan under the differential and remove the drain plug.
2) Once all the fluid is drained, wipe off the drain plug of old oil and any debris, rethread and tighten.
3) Pump new differential oil into the diff through the fill plug, rethread the plug and tighten. You'll know when there's enough fluid when it begins to pour back out of the fill hole (assuming the car is level).
edit: It's late, and I read your post as wanting to replace the differential fluid...
Here's a DIY on the transmission fluid: http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/powert...id-change.html You shouldn't have to remove the intercooler if you've got a particularly lengthy funnel.

So I did do my rear diff, exactly how you said it too. So I guess I did just do my tranny fluid because I drained fluid from the bottom plug near the front then added 75W90 to where the dipstick was. I just thought there was a seperate drain plug/filler to the front diff and tranny. As I did more research, some people say that I need LSD diff fluid in the rear but not in the front, I was wondering what LSD fluid was, I added 75w90 synthetic fluid to the rear diff when I did it.

STI's have 2 plugs in the tranny that you need to drain. look up some DIY's and how to's. there are many out there to reference and with enough photos that its almost impossible to screw up.

Does that mean I need to drain the other plug and basically redo the whole process?
what did you put in it? id look around and see what other people have had good luck with in 04-05 trannys. i used motul on mine and it was a noticeable difference over redline. the 04-05 trannys have brass synchros that are prone to going out.

I work at oil changers 300, so I did all this at my workplace since I get a discount. I put GL5 75w90 synthetic in both the rear diff and the front diff/tranny. When I drained the fluid in the front, I only drained the fluid from the front diff drain plug thinking that I only needed to drain one and not both. Just yesterday night I bought motul300 gear oil thinking that I might as well change the gear fluid, then I found out that it's the same as front diff fluid. I read that the rear diff needs special LSD fluid but I'm not sure if I need any additives to whatever I added from oil changers. So since I only drained the fluid from the front diff plug, should I redo it and drain it from both plugs and just add the motul that I just bought? also for the rear diff should I redo that as well and buy the LSD fluid from subaru? Ahhhhh I'm so confused!!!
