Doesnt california let officers give speeding ticket through pacing?

The last 2 tickets I got they would always leave the radar no. part blank and just paced my speed.

When chp gives you a speeding ticket, do they always have to use a radar?

I'd like to see you drive 65 on I-280.

Please.

Oh yeah funny story about going 65 on 280...

I went to traffic school about 4 months ago, and when the teacher went around the room asking what thier offense was. One old asian man got a ticket for going "too slow" in one of the faster lanes, even though he was driving 65 mph speed limit.

silly chp...

actually the new laser-radar is already in use, on occasion, on Hwy 80 and 280, during those "CHP crackdown" days...

see, THAT'S BOGUS!!! they'll nail you with whatever excuse they get. semantically, "speed limit" refers to the maximum speed, hence the "limit" portion. while i think that asian man should've had better sense, how does that define him as being wrong?

you go 75mph, they nail you and cite the "speed limit" law. you go 65mph, they nail you and cite the "common sense" law.

i'll take my chances with the V1 while speeding. cops!

also, my understanding is that laser jammers are illegal in the state of CA.

Was Stan talking about driving on 280?

Oh yes, well almost. For an entire week I drove between 65 and 70 going to work
in my G35. I increased my gas mileage by 2mpg!

I own the original Escort Passport when I lived in Oregon. Never got a speeding ticket,
but then again I don't recall it ever detecting a radar hit from the state troopers. My
last speeding ticket was maybe 8 years ago, (knock on wood) yes on 280 at 10:00pm.
Maybe a detector would have saved me, maybe not since I was the only car on that stretch of 280.

I'm not saying I better than Stan, that I don't speed or anything like that. But if I get
caught speeding then that is my fault.

Now I did it, I bet I'm going to get a speeding ticket now.

Even though the driver was driving at the maximum speed limit, he could have been
blocking faster traffic in the #1 lane. There are signs posted about slower traffic to
stay right.

So how many cars must be behind you before you move over to the right?

Yep, these are the 2 main spots on 37. You should only speed on roads that you are very familiar with otherwise you're gambling....

If I remember correctly from my dmv written test, it was about 5?

Principally, does it matter?

Right, but saying "don't speed" is an utterly simplistic false dichotomy.

Speeding tickets on major interstates generally serve only as a "driving tax". On I-280, which has been characterized by some as the California autobahn, there is nothing wrong with someone in a modern car traveling at 85mph. There is certainly nothing "wreckless" about it either, even though it's 20mph over a limit made up years ago.

Add the fact that it isn't really speed that kills, but rather the difference in speed, and now you've got a compelling arguement to faster than the speed "limit"--even though you're just going with the flow.

Ahh, okay. I added a smiley to my original post. Does that make it better?

True about that driving tax. I read ticket assassin too.
Speeding tickets of course are for safety, but it's also turned into a business. With the police stations and courts profiting from it. Why else have quota's?

If anybody lives in san jose area like me though, here is a little tip, I tend to try to stay away from 101/280 as much as possible. 85/87 are less saturated with police... although there is one chp that likes to hide near the 17exit on 85 every once in a while.

I used to have a top of the line Bel (in '98) and then a Uniden in '00 that I still have (but don't use). The Bel was irritating and had annoying (to me) chirps and beeps with lights that were hard to understand. The Uniden had a text display and more innocuous noises. I used it till last year when I sold my WRX. I went on a lot of road trips and that Uniden has saved me thousands of dollars. It's only irritating thing is the false alarms and that you can't turn off X band. The text display is great.

On Memorial day weekend, I drove to Phoenix and back in the RS. I borrowed my friend's V1 for the trip. The difference between the V1 and other detectors I have used is almost as great as the difference between a lesser detector and no detector at all. The V1 would 'blip' and by the 3rd time it alerted, cars as far as I could see ahead would start braking. It went off a total of 5 times on the way back. 3 were waiting officers that would have gotten me (no two ways about it) and 2 already had customers. With the V1 I made 746 miles in 9 hrs flat thru LA 10, 57 and 210 to 5N. Not saying it's 'perfect' or a "license to speed" but when used correctly, it is an amazing tool and IMHO, how anything labelled as a 'radar detector' should perform. The arrows are priceless and very comforting as you see them directly pointing at the cruiser as you pass... Nice device.
