Anyone have the Criterion/letterbox/widescreen version of the BladeRunner laserdisc? Or, at least the non-letterbox one?

we i was sure i had a copy but after going through the collection i don't have it. I do how ever have 4 copies of the original theatrical version 2 in widescreen and 2 in pan and scan.

I too am one of the few people that is pissed they never released the original vesion on DVD. Sure i love the directors edition but being the fact that BladeRunner is my all time favorite film i want every version. Including the Bootleg Directors Edition that played at the Castro 6 months before Ridley Scott released his edition. In his directors cut he actually removed the "violent" sceens. Like when "Leon" brian james character shots Holden and he goes though the wall. And when "Roy Batty" takes his thumbs and puts them through Tyrell's eyes. He cut them both all to hell.

No Jason i don't. But while stores were renting Laserdisc's i made myself a few copies onto video because i love watching films in widescreen. I've watched the videos hundreds of time and they're alittle grainy.

 

btw - Blade Runner is my all time favorite movie as well. The Director's Cut is interesting, but kills the movie for me as a futuristic detective movie of a "film noire" style. To me, implying that Deckered might be a replicant does nothing more than raise the "ooh ahh" level and turn it into something that can support brainless cult following. Scott should remain a director.

Hopefully he will have it because that disc never retailed for anything less than $99.97 So i dought it if just anybody picked it up unless it was in the used pin when they were trying to get rid of them.

 

Uh, Amazon has Blade Runner(Director's Cut) on DVD for $14.99. I didn't know anyone still had laser disc

 

I totally agree! I never minded the voice-over, to me like you said it added to the feel of the film. I like having Deckard as a human; it makes the scene with Batty at the end all the more meaningful. It is through Deckard in that scene that we empathize with Batty about what it is to be a living self-aware being weather or not you were man made or "natural". I do not think it works as well if they are both Replicants. Its kind of about seeing the other side if you will.

On a side note, If you ever make a DVD of that version, I would love to get one as well, I'dd even pay you for your labor.

Yeah, but in the book, it is sort of implied that Deckard is a replicant.

But then again, the movie doesn't follow the book in a lot of aspects.
