Need help! URGENT!!!

So I started up my car after being in class for 3 hours or so and the car is acting extremely weird. The startup "sweep" of the gauges take 30 or so seconds. At idle, it says my car is idling at 3k rpm and when I give it a little gas it can go up all the way pass 9k rpm. I drove it down the street and even though I was going 25-30mph it was showing that I was going 120+.

Also the temperature and mileage screens are flickering when on and there is an electrical ringing noise when the ignition is on.

You definitely have some sort of electrical issue going on, does the car feel normal? It could be that the connector for the cluster is loose or has a short.

How well did it start?

First try disconnecting the positive of the battery to reset the system. If that doesn't work then try something else. But always start with something really basic, to debug the issue.

Yeah the car sounds sounds and runs normal. It seems a bit different but I'm just being a bit paranoid.

If it started well, I doubt its your battery or charging system, so like above I'd recommend disconnecting your battery and letting it sit for a few minutes, then reconnecting so it can reset the ECU.

If that doesn't work I would pull out the cluster (only a few screws, and you don't have to pull it all the way out) and give a firm press on the 3 connectors, there's one on each top corner and in the top center.

Well I just drove over to the auto shop class and borrowed a wrench to take off the positive terminal and all is new again.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone!
