Question Need Eyeline Kit Painted!?

I have a set of Replica Jun eyeline kits I need painted. I have a sedona red MY02 so I couldn't buy a prepainted one. Does anyone know a place around UC, Hayward, Fremont or Newark that would be able to paint this for me (and for how much)???? Thanks for the help guys.

You probably won't need a bunch, just buy a spray can from paintscratch.com, one can should be enough for those dinky pieces.

Seraph- Thanks for the tip, a body shop was quoting me $100 !!!

AZN121184- Yes it's the replica eyelids just like the ones they sell painted @ gruppe-s. They don't fit exactly right (I heard even the real JUN eyelit kits doesn't fit exactly either). I'll let you know how it turns out after I get the paint and clearcoat from paintscratch.com.

Holy crap 100 bucks? my bodyshop quoted me 150 for my sideskirts (after a year they are still pristine) my liberal replica front grill, my fog covers, and a huge gouge on my right mirror from getting keyed.

100 for two little eyelids, wtf??

Dont go to the body shop

dont go to paintscratch (MAJOR RIPOFF)

Go to an autobody supply shop and get a can of spraypaint made. Look for the paint code under your hood... or search around i-club or scoobymods.

Its lke $20 for a biiig can. (At least it was at Ned's Autobody Supply in Concord).

i tried doing that, i got the primer, the clearcoat and the color code matched spray can. however the paint doesn't come out to be shiny like i want it. any recommendations? it looks really bad when the eyelids or the fog light covers are painted yet they have the "flat" look to it even after numerous clear coats.

one thing you gotta do is wet sand with a fine grit paper between each coat of paint, that will remove any roughness thats there.

Thumbs up

mmboost- $20 dollars for a can !!! That's hella cheaper than paintscratch.com. I just have to find a place around here like Ned's.

Seraph- When the guy told me it would cost a BILL to paint those covers, I told him LATER!!!! and sped off from his RIPOFF!!! shop. He was tryin to feed me some crap about special preparation processes, etc. Give me a break, they're just two dinky pieces of plastic, not a body kit!!! For all those shops who always try to rip people off

Yeah for painting...

- any bumps AT ALL, sand down with cloth or fine paper.

- wash VERY well with soap and then clean with paint prep.

- coat of primer. short dry. another coat of primer. let it dry well. wet sand very, very lightly. dry

- be sure to prime the backside/inside of the eyelid. I found that doing this and then painting the inside with flat black kept the the eyelid from glowing all stupidlike when I put my turn signal on

- repeat the primer process on the outside, but now with paint. If all seems very smooth apply two more medium (or a bit more coats. Keep away from dust, wind, etc while drying.

- clear coat light. dont let it dry all the way. clear coat medium to heavy. light dry. keep applying clear coat and the light drying to taste. dont go over board.

I dont let clear coats dry all the way so that the next coat melts into the last one. I'm not a pro AT ALL. I have no idea what I'm doing, except that I've done this before to my own eyelids and side skirts and its not too bad. For eyelids... its just fine, esp. compared to the rediculous quotes I see for painting.

Your specific problem might be that you need to put clearcoat on pretty heavy. The trick is finding out the limit where you dont get drips but you get a thick enough coat so that it glosses well.

Anyhow, don't go repainting you whole car on this advice
