N00b mistake w/fuel pump

So it all went fine until the end. I changed to a Walboro 255lph because my stock STi pump was going bad. So swapped it out and put it back, making sure the gasket was lined up. Tightened it down like head bolts (very slowly and carefully in order to release and put pressure on it evenly).

Turned it on crusie and gas light blink with cel. My buddy told me to watch for this and it would be the gasket. So I undid all the bolts slowly and took the pump out, looked it over and put it back. Slowly I turned the bolts that hold the fuel pump lid back onto the gas tank and snap, 1 nut snapped the stud, then another. So now out of like 8 studs 2 are snapped and there is no way I am getting a seal now. What do I do, like replace the whole gas tank? Car runs fine but I know there is a leak. I am clueless on what to do next.

Cliffs snapped 2 studs on the fuel pump lid and it will not make a seal now. Cel, cruise and gas low all blink. I suck at life. What to do besides eat a bullet? Only thing I can think of it was like 30 degrees outside as I wasn't putting ANY pressure on these and they are not torqued in any way.

The Bad

Those studs are part of the fuel tank which is $388 wholesale

The Good

Put some fuel in on the way to the suby stealership and and the blinking gas light, cel, and cruise lights all went off. I think I am gonna call it good until if/when they come back on then I will change the tank. Note to self do not work on garbage metal studs in sub 30 degree weather. I know from the way it sounds that I torqued them hard, but that really is not the case. Warning to everyone working on their fuel pumps!

hmm, I've changed out a few fuel pumps and never encountered any snapping studs.

As far as the CEL, that's usually the low voltage warning for the fuel pump assembly, but that happens for me because I run it for a minute without the pump hooked up to electricity to drain the fuel line. you should be able to reset the battery and it'll go away.

btw, no matter what anyone tells you, don't use jb weld... (=

it shouldn't be hard. i forgot how wide the stud is, but u can drill into and reverse the stud out that way.
