My Trip to Baja, Mexico PART 2 (56K NO!)
Last year I posted some pics of my trip to Baja Mexico to work in an orphanage and in the adjacent communities:
https://www.i-club.com/forums/showth...highlight=Baja
This year my wife and I went again back in the beginning of May. Aside from working in the orphanage we went to again to feed 400 folks at the migrant worker camps, and also gave shows and socks to the children at 2 other camps. Once again I'm reminded of how fortunate we are here.
Enjoy,
Me and one of the kids from the "barrio."

My wife fitting shoes to a kid.

The children line up to receive their shoes.

Mom points out shoes she liked for her kid.

Me playin with the kids now that they got their new shoes.

feeding the "Tatas" (grandpas). These men were abandoned and left out to die. Many of them become alcoholics and just die out there in the desert. We help build them a rehab center and new out house trying to give them a little dignity.

This is where they live, in the small green roofed building on the left

This is Glen he is in charge of a local rehab center for substance abuse and prostitutes. Glen used to live in San Diego, and used to be an O.G. straight up Chicano in a gang, in and out of jail all his life til last 10 years or so. Last time he was up in Chino and when he got out , not more than a couple days later he mentioned getting drugged up again and hurting some dude really bad. Now he is clean and helping folks get straight . . . awesome testimonial!

My wife (left) and some of the girls posing it up!

This is Ariana with Me and the wife. Ariana has cerebral palsy. Mercy gave her physical therapy (she works as a PT by profession) We fell in love with her and sponsor her now. She'll be going to Shriners Hospital in LA to get major back surgery, hopefully she'll be able to walk more normal.

what you did is really awesome. I hope others are inspired to do work like that. It's one of the most selfless thing a person can do. i hope to one day be able to do that, it takes a lot of heart to actually get out there and do these humanitarian things. a lot of us say we would do sometihng like this, but probably a few actually go and doit. we should make an i-club event and help out with the rehab center. looks like they are still in the process of building it.
man i said it last year, and i still really want to do this. thats awesome man, its gotta be better feeling than anything to see hungry/needy people getting food and things they need.

more than I ever knew. I used to see this stuff on late night TV and not think too much of it. I mean a little compassion, but never though that was something for me to do. Once I actually did this and saw the poverty in the flesh, you can't help but feel like the ordinary " Joe Shmoe" can make a big difference. As long as I took the first step. Besides whats a week out of the year, I can afford to give that up.
Remember I get back just as much as I give to them, maybe even more!
