my seemingly shady encounter with san leandro pd
HIGH mumbo-jumbo up in here...Read thru the pages, and as always with the threads containing LEO situations, it turns into Braveheart themed responses.
I have just one question: what do all the people not agreeing with the LEOs (these days) want? Since we are on topic, we can incorporate gun control, medicare, minimum wage, Donkeys or Elephants rule as well (why not cover it all at once)?;
What State you want to have? Where you can flash your guns out in public, arm your self up to your neck, yet want to have police on your doorstep asap when a dude breaks in your house with a wife and a child in and you are stuck at work?;
Then you want an ambulance to come to your rescue when you are having a heart attack but wait, they can't cause a drunk driver just ran into them. There was no probable cause to pull him over cause he had dealer plates on :insert sarcasm:?;
Then you want free this and free that, like Europe where academia populous does not pay for anything, and the retirement age is 55, after which things are, well, free. So no one pays for anything, and the outcome is obvious?;
Then you want higher minimum wage, but only for you, cause why would a drive thru person getting that kind of money, your job is more important, right?;
"Rights", "rights", "rights". That is all responses contain. You signed up for it.

It might help to know your 4th Amendment rights next time you get pulled over by a couple of bored cops on a fishing expedition.

They could have. They could also have not pulled you over.
You were told straight up, TWICE by the sound of it, that if you don't fix your tint you will get another ticket. Not make an appointment or a plan to fix it, but to actually fix the thing which is against the law. You chose to drive the car in the same condition which caused you to be pulled over twice before. Sounds like you were lucky that they didn't write you a non-correctable AGAIN.
There is no legal/illegal tint percentage limit in CA. Which means you will be ticketed for having ANY kind of tint on the front 3 windows. Don't be surprised if you get another ticket after they re-do it. You keep racking those up and it's going to get expensive.
Same with the plates. Having proof that your plates are MIA is not fixing the problem. It's just proof that you haven't taken appropriate action to fix the thing which is illegal. Proof that you have taken action would be a temporary paper plate/registration which the DMV would issue you if you went to them and rectified the situation.
You chose to break the law. They chose to enforce it. Sounds like there was nothing shady about this encounter at all. Know what I do when I don't want to get ticketed for the illegal condition of my car? I don't drive it in public. Sorry you got caught up, but you were asking for it.

That's what I was saying earlier. It honestly sounds that hotflare caught a new cop (possibly a dick) and got stuck in a craptastic situation but one that was valid.

Characterizing the law as back and white IS stupid. I imagine thats what kamnewton was saying. Saying that it was OP's fault for not doing something about his plates is Just dickish and unconstructive. Anyone who's dealt with the dealership tags and plates knows that you can kick and scream, but they come when they come.
