My neighbor is going to kill someone.

Came home yesterday and saw the neighbor putting brake fluid in his car. Grabbed a couple beers and a rag and went over to say hi and offer him a beer and a hand. His master cylinder reservoir was empty and I tried to explain how the brake fluid does not just disappear and we should look for a leak. I noticed the driver's steer wheel was covered in brake fluid so I took it off and found this:

I explained that he should not drive the car as it is unsafe until it is fixed and the system is bled properly. I even offered to take him to work this morning. Not only did he drive to the store last night, he drove to work this morning.

How do I go about getting him off the road? Who do I contact? The cops? DOT? Slash his tires?

Weird thing is all the other pads are good. Even the one on the inside of this caliper. I don't know how it could have happened.

Notify local P.D. via anonymous tip.

Call P.D. over to your house and walk the Officer over and make him have the neighbor show you the concern.

Wait for natural selection to occur.

Frozen piston on the caliper. The other three calipers are fine but this one has been having it's stopping duties performed by just one side, so it'd wear out 3-4 times sooner.

Good luck bro, sorry I missed ya when ya came back to visit.

It's crazy how robust the modern braking system is and how bad it can get before it completely fails. Probably why the guy continues to drive it.

If the tires are good, I wouldn't slash the tires. You could cut the brake line. Pedal will just go to the floor when he tries to fire it up. If you want to damage the car to incite repair.

Don't they have safety inspections in PA? Bring him up for poor safety?

I can't call them over tonight, I have to work until 11pm. I guess I could do it at that hour but it seems weird. He is at work until 5-6pm and I will have left by then. I am all for natural selection but it could be a kid who did not look before crossing the street.

There is brake fluid all over the ground. The system already has a hole in it. I don't know how he is stopping the car. I put his parking/emergency brake on last night and it is the kick kind. I can't imagine he is using that.....

We do have inspections here. I will look into that and see if there is a report asshats system in place.

Wrote the local PD an email. They just got back to me and said they will stop bye tonight when he gets off work. They will inspect the car and, if they think it is unsafe, will give him an order not to drive it.

I thought they had annual inspections there too? Virginia does and the tag has to be displayed on the windshield.

I hope you have a garage for your car. It seems like he'll surely know who informed the local PD.

Time to head that off, if op catches wind of plans. A polite conversation with said person where you say "Man, I don't know what I woudl do if someone messed with my car. I, well I think I would go in the middle of the night, and burn their house to the ground around them"

Don't act crazy, BE crazy and people learn not to **** with you
