My kid's new Hot Rod...
... next to Dad's Hot Rod
My wife is taking him to Las Vegas tomorrow for the Regional Championships over the weekend, so I had to get it done. He is currently 3rd in points for the Western Region. Which is mainly Ca, Nv and Co. But actually includes everything this side of Ohio, but the riders from the other states just don't seem to make the trip or just don't have BMX going or race under a different sanctioning body.
So here is my kid's Hot Rod, a little under 13 pounds of aluminum, titanium and carbon fiber, as little steel as I can get away with and some rubber. Yes, BMX Dad's are sometimes known to compare their worth according to the weight of their kid's bicycle. The lower the better... and this one is pretty damn light
Nice color too huh? You betcha... WORLD RALLY BLUE!!! (with a twist)

Here's the twist... the paint shop had some clear coat with crushed glass in it. he wanted to see how it looked before actually putting it on the monster truck it was bought for. So he used the bike as a test.... nifty sparkles huh? But I think it would be a little much for the WRX.... would sorta look like a really nice bass boat.

You know, if you lost the paint all together you could probably save yourself another pound.
Nice bike. I agree, the paint would be too much on a wrx, but on that bike it looks perfect.

All the tracks out here are outdoor.. some of the tracks back east that get lots more bad weather are indoor or under cover. My son is 8. Here's a pic from a few weeks ago... also the answer to "How does a little 50 pound kid break a bicycle frame?"

That's cool chit. I look forward to having kids and doing this type of stuff, Good for you!!! I was thrown off by the tires. They look like streeters. How 'bout Magnesium stem riser/seat post, Ti/CF seat, Ti bars. Fun stuff!!! I built a mounatin bike a couple of yrs ago. My goal was weight conservation as well.

The front tire is a 1" slick. Works fine as long as the surface is good. Seat is thin plastic and subject to too much slamming to rely on carbon. Seatpost only sticks down and inch and is aluminum. Ti bars might weigh more than the carbon fiber ones already on it.
Other fun stuff...
Titanium spokes, carbon fiber/aluminum hubs, titanium bottom bracket shaft in aluminum cups, carbon fiber forks, hollow pin chain with lightened links.
