My first run in with American boost.

Had a guy in a Psyclone or Typhoon (The pickup) come up beside me and rev on me today by the Safeway(by Cattleman's) in Ardenwood.

He jumped on the boost from a roll before I did, but as soon as I got on the boost, I started to pull on him. I pulled beside him before we got the a stop sign.

I heard those things were quick. They are. He was a hella mean Harley looking dude with a foo-man-chu,a goatee, bald head, dark glasses, and tats. He looked suprised that he got pulled on by a 2 liter 4 banger, but I gave him a thums up and he smiled!

Then I got into a 4 wheel drift on my way back to Safeway. I went out of my way to play.

BTW, I am running a 96 Octane Toluene mix @ 19PSI on the PE1820 and 24 degrees BTDC when on boost. My car is hauling @$$. I have to be above 300 WHP. I just don't feel like flopping down another $125 to find out.

Anybody want to race? Freddie? You need to have the wind removed from your sails buddy!

Andy

I think they are twin turbo aren't they?

I know that at one point, they were one of the fastest accelerating vehicles in the world.

Neither of them ever came with a supercharger, they both have a single turbo.

4.3 liter V6 with a healthy amount of boost, the pickups ran about a 13.7 in the quarter mile, as quoted by road and track.

I was taking a look a the pickup a while ago, very nice truck.

No. I quit racing the 1/4. It is just too hard on the car. I would like to get a recent time, but Sactown and Sears are just too far and too expensive to drive my car to (Race gas aint cheap). Not to mention that I have to take 1/2 the day off.

Prolly (Slang) mid to low 12's. I would be very happy with a 12.5.

I've always wanted the blazer one (typhoon).

Those 4.3 V6 are bulletproof, and you can get GM racing alloy blocks too!

I know a decent amount about these trucks.....several friends own them, and one of those friends started syty.org way back in 1996 or so.

Stock, they are good for high 13s or so. You can "turn up the wick".....a little. Unfortunately, the 4.3L block isn't nearly as good as the 3.8L V6 block (i.. Buick Grand National, etc). Start really making some HP, and well....stuff (motor and otherwise) breaks . They all came with AWD (it's the system also used in the AWD Astrovan and Olds Bravada SUV) and the 700R4 4-speed automatic tranny.

There were approx 3000 Syclones (pickup) made, all 1991 models. ALMOST all of them were black, although a few (the 10 Marlboro trucks which were RED and had a buncha extra stuff on them being a notable exception) were other colors.

There were approx 5000 Typhoons (blazer) made, all 1992 and 1993 models. Quite a few colors were available.

Finally, there is the "Sonoma GT" pickup. It is the "ricer Syclone".....it got the body cladding and stuff from the Syclone, but still had the (anemic) regular N/A 4.3L V6 in it. No idea on production numbers on those.....like it really matters

The year they came out (1991), I believe it was one of the fastest production vehicles available in the USA from 0-60 (the aerodynamics of a BRICK didn't help much beyond 60 ) except for the ZR1 Corvette.

They have done VERY well on resale value. Even today, you really can't pick up one for much under $13-15K unless it has had the holy crap beat out of it.

Do I appreciate them? Sure! Would I own one? Probably not

Yes Freddie! Lets do it!

Do they sell race gas there? Would you prefer Sears Point, or Sac? I hear times at Sac are faster.
