Is it illegal to remove a safety device from a car, like an airbag? i have an aftermarket steering wheel and it doesnt have an airbag, but my stock one did... so is my car not street legal?

it's got to be street legal. but you'll definitely lose any warranties, etc on your car. If you change your front seats, you likely will no longer have air bags. BUT, if you remove your steering wheel and seats and don't replace them... then the car is definitely not street legal!!!

I dont have any airbag lights, the wheel has been on there for awhile...
and i have a 1996 L coupe... and a clean driving record... but for some reason they want me to pay 230-240 per month for full coverage so uhm yeah i cant afford that.
