Just now, I was on my way home on 680 from Milpitas and noticed my boxer rumble to be Way louder that the daily rumble.
First off, y ears are Very sensitive. I grew up playing countless numbers of instruments and plan on Major in music so this cannot be the mistake in my hearing.
I noticed when i press on the gas, the exhaust rumble is a lot louder that what it used to be. The drone is slightly louder also.... At first, i thought my midpipe fell off so I looked under the car as soon as I pulled in my driveway but all the pipes were still there.. That's how loud it is.
Could a broken gasket be an explanation for all this? what is going ooooooon =[ Why do car problems come around when money is no where to be found. My right ear is still ringing from the ride home...
The only engine mod I have is a Downpipe installed by GST i think a month or so ago.
and a cai i did myself many many months ago.
help anyone?
Thanks Guys
Kevin

My aps downpipe came apart three times after GST installed it. Check it ASAP...

aagahahaha!!! well check the dp and check all the gaskets. also did gst reuse the old gasket or replaced them with new ones? you might wanna buy a new turbo gasket, dp to midpipe and midpipe to axle back gasket. also check to make sure your hangers are all on and if your bolts are all tighten.
I had a theory once (maybe it was my hush), but as my sti reached 45k it was way louder. Then after getting my clutch done it was way quieter............the flywheel resurfaced too.................so either the smoothness made it not drone as much or more likely just the exhaust had come loose and when they did clutch it was tightened up.

When you looked under the car did you just peek down there and see if any pipes were missing? You should jack it up, put it on stands, and use a flash light and follow the pipe and see if there's any holes, misalignment, missing bolts, etc. Since there was work down at the DP, I'd look at that from your engine bay also. Look from underneath since the heatshield might be in the way.
Most common problem would be a leak somewhere. The noticeable extra loudness is a sign. however, from my experiences with blow gaskets, the sound becomes more "raspy". I could hear it louder, but it didn't have a low droning sound to it.

If it's gotten a little louder and raspier, it's probably a gasket issue causing a bit of an exhaust leak, a common problem for aftermarket dp + stock catback.
But if it's gotten CRAZY louder, you might want to check to see if all your piping is still intact
