that is where the real danger is, finding a new exploit and then replaceing system files that actually work flawlessy with versions that have backdoors and exploits. If the kernel source is out my god root kits are going to be even easier to code and harder to detect.
Yeah at first i was excited but now i'm getting worried... some serious damage could be done

Salty 02-13-2004 01:28 PM

if i was gates and his staff i'd hire people that screwed with it or were a known threat... help them work everything out in the end. Im sure MS has the resources to fix this in their sleep with all their $$$ and im sure they knew this would be a question of "when" instead of "if". I don't know a lot about computers but maybe they wanted it to leak because they have a better system out? could that be a possibility? everyone panics because they're more vulnerable then MS suddenly markets a "cure" for this whole situation and grosses billions once again? fill me in please...

ilmaestro 02-13-2004 01:38 PM

I think MS will squash it before it gets out of control. Now I kinda hope they do. This is going to cause companies too much trouble if it gets out of control.... but from reading posts on slashdot, several people do have it already.

dr3d1zzl3 02-13-2004 02:51 PM

**** man its been posted to the public security mailing lists like full disclosure and bugtraq

dr3d1zzl3 02-13-2004 02:52 PM

not to mention kazzaa and other such file sharing networks.

ilmaestro 02-13-2004 04:29 PM

I don't use kazaa or anything, but some friends told me the files on they came across are just renamed movies and crap.

Right. If it actually did get out, in the long run things could turn out better. The Open source community would certainly be willing to help MS tighten things up, if they weren't all prosecuted first, heh. Needless to say, Linux is open source, and it has worked to its benefit.

j
it is out and ms has even admited to it in a press release
