MS Windows source code leaked

I'm sure some of you heard about this by now. I think it happened within the last 24 hours. Anyone know of this?

Nah, it just means people will be able to see how windows works (at least the parts of it that were leaked) and some hackers might try to come up with some new viruses, other people might just have fun and build their own modified versions of windows components. I'm with them

Well, at least now we'll have actual examples of how to NOT write an operating system.

Nah, I think the main issue is embarrassment Not because of the leak itself, but that people will see the inherent crapiness of their product once and for all.

Damnnnnn. I can't find it. I've seen the directory listing though... it's quite impressive. I'd love to customize some of those components.

oh and fyi dont down load any notepad.exe files from the internet hahahahaha

allready seen 5 different versions with exploits and back doors in them.

that is where the real danger is, finding a new exploit and then replaceing system files that actually work flawlessy with versions that have backdoors and exploits. If the kernel source is out my god root kits are going to be even easier to code and harder to detect.

the virus threat is very real as Dre had mentioned....although I am all for open source. But then again, maybe that means that MS will get off their a$$e$ and revamp windows so it is more like a unix system. Stability is the key.

I would like to get myself a copy of the source code to play around with.

Right. If it actually did get out, in the long run things could turn out better. The Open source community would certainly be willing to help MS tighten things up, if they weren't all prosecuted first, heh. Needless to say, Linux is open source, and it has worked to its benefit.

one danger of this is to OPEN SOURCE projects. who know what may happen if MS starts to check on open source projects and start suing them when they see similar code, like SCO...
