B of A is good. You can actually set up an account in PA if there are any. I moved from Washington state and i have been using that account since. I never had a problem and I never set up a CA BofA account here. It's very good cos lots of other country have Bof A so you can use ur ATM when you travel.

WaMu has free online billpay. I pay all my bills thru their website. Haven't had a checkbook in years.

Wells Fargo is not a bad choice either, they do charge the hell out of you on an overdraft, but if you dont have money you shouldnt be spending it.

Bank of the West.... although they're not as big as the larger banks, they have a surprising number of branches in California. Free checking, etc, etc.

Also, in addition to places like ING Direct, credit unions are a good place too. The rate for savings accts at StarOne CU is 4%.
