This is officially the best road EVER!
Too bad only Allen(bemani) and went
Anyhow, the ride starts at the foresthill exit off of I-80 at Auburn, which is a semi-normal 2 lane road but it has some very nice 55mph sweepers. Then, you hit foresthill in a scant 15 minutes of driving, where we pulled into the Beacon gasstation to get gas and head onto Mosquito Ridge Road which is the next road after the gas station.
From there, you go onto one of the craziest most scenic and most empty twisty roads on the planet!!! The road at first is seemingly normal, until you come around one corner and then your on the side of a forest canyon wall way up there (first pic in the albulm). The road itself is narrow but managable, and rough but not that rough. The speed limit is an amazing 40mph despite some of the corners being more like 15mph hairpins!
After awhile of excellent driving, we hit an intersection at French Medows road, and suddenly the road changed. It gets smoother, and the corners are more like 20mph corners. Great stuff! The only issue we ran into was scattered rocks on the road since the inside part of the road is at times a sheer rock face that the road was carved out of.
After going about 2/3rds or so of the way to the end of the road (which is some lake) we ran into a snag... SNOW!
Some of the corners had some nasty ice and it slowly got worse, but all of a sudden we just hit a huge patch of snow and then no more road... So, we just turned around and headed back.
The whole trip, starting from Golfland in Roseville at 9:15 only lasted til noon! I was expecting to be back around 3 or so
Good stuff though, not that hard to get to.
Anyhow, heres some pics... As you can see, I also did a little off-roading, LOL!:

I'm down for it again ... but this time, get there earlier!
We were the only cars on the way, but coming back there was a cop car, ranger, and a ton of bikers
Steve, what happened to that coming down the corner, kicking up some dirt shot of my car?

Man I picked a lousy day for an out-of-town concert! I am for sure going the first weekend of March, since I'm busy with moving until then. Hopefully we can get a few more guys involved. I'm hoping saturday of that weekend would be better since the Solano County meet is that Sunday. Or maybe we could make it an early morning run followed by the meet? Either way, I hope I get the chance to play in the snow and the dirt before it's time for the S-03s.

Kostamojen, thanks for posting your description of the road trip and the photos link. Those pics are really good! I hope to make the drive soon, before the weather warms up and the bikers swarm the road.

too early for us in the real bay area....
I didn't see what time you'd be going, so I headed out when I could, I must have been pretty close to going in as you came out.
The snowy ending of Mosquito Ridge was quite a disapointment, on the way back- in frustration I took off on the Ralston ridge road, which is even more exciting, but alas my intended route of connecting to Wentworth Springs was blocked by a down tree

Gee dorifto, I don't know about going out with those guys- at least I usually pre-check my Sunday Drives so they don't dead-end into a snow field, you should come out for one of mine sometime :-)
But in case you didn't see it at the rallycrosses last year- here is my amazing frankenquattro;
