any sort of mod is reason enough to deny warrenty claims according to subaru

even removing the intake silencer can cause a denial in warrenty claims

if you are paranoid about the warrenty then don't do engine mods.

suspension stuff on the other hand is a much safer route.

all depends on your dealer and their tech guys.

Basically any part you change...loose the warranty to those parts...obviously. But you also put at risk any part connected to them.

if the dealers is really strict...they can deny claims on tons of stuff...like transmission work on any modified cars. I got my tranny fixed no questions asked...my car is stock....I have talked to others with mods...no such luck..had to pay up to a $1500 deposit before.

100k warranties are a good thing at times...yeah it sucks that folks like you and I can't go crazy modding our cars...but hey...sounds to me like your parents either bought you a wrx or helped you buy one...I'd be stoked just to have one.

other mods you can do....the suspension. work on the suspension. stereo.

mostly I'd say talk to your dealership and tell them what you're trying to do.

For me...until I hit 100k the only thing i'm touching is my stereo (pretty much done), suspension (spring), exhaust. probably an oil catch can, new battery and some hoses...that's about it.

Soon as my warranty comes up I'm getting a new intercooler, turbo, ecu. basically the good stuff.

so yeah..talk to the dealership.

Why are your parents telling you what to do with the car you paid (or are paying) for?

1. Spend your mod money on english/spelling classes

2. Your parents, that likely bought you the car, are being "gay"? Come on little guy, give them some credit. Respect what they do for you.

3. The only truly safe mod is tint.

lol, u could get something like a UTEC, and if u have problems, u can simply take it out, they shouldn't be able to tell it was on there, and it is easy 15 min in/out.

if you go the utec route...be very very careful when you take it in and out. you have to drive it enough for the ecu memory to fill back in...or yes..yes they can tell it's been in there.

ecu changes pretty much completely void the warranty...least that's what I was told when I asked.

Suspension mods could also void warranty on bearings and such, even wheels if they are not stock Subaru. I would just get better tires and take driving classes.

Dump the 100,000 mile warranty and stick with the 30k warranty.

yeah except I just had to have my transmission openned and syncros replaced. I've talked to several people..most in the 30-60k range with tranny problems.

guess I am a supporter of warranties....

but if you choose to I do believe they give you some of your money back for unused warranties...but it sounds like that's more up to your folks than you.

keep stock parts(for that special day when you need them) go to town on aftermarket parts. <--- ill-advised if mommy and daddy are major decision makers(financial) in the car. but thats what some people here are doing.
but keep in mind that this philosophy is dishonest...
