Mitsubishi in Trouble
Actually all 1G eclipse/talon used the 4g63 or 4g63t motor, the 2g eclipse/talon turbo models used the 4g63t while the non turbo used the 420a engine made by chrysler which is also used in a lot of american cars specifically neon, sebring, avenger etc...

What sometimes happens when a car company gets itself in this kind of trouble it that someone else buys them out and rebadges some of the best models of that company. Just like AMC dissapeared, but Jeep became a Chrysler product, and now Chrysler is owned by Diamler Benz. BTW the engines in 1 and 2G eclipses and Talons were all Mitsu engines, just as the current Evo has that same very old engine pushed to the limits.

The Evo's are very nice in my opinion, and if mitsu is willing to warranty the 2.0 boosted to within an inch of it's life then I say go for it. At least they finally have the crank walk problem solved.

At least the EVO is boosted "the right way"; unlike the boost creepin', small *** turbo STI

It's not surprising that Mitsubishi's in trouble. They have a terrible reputation in Japan, and the only models that they can sell even a decent amount of are the Lancer Evolution, Lancer Cedia (and Cedia Turbo), and the R.I.P. FTO (God bless that little car's heart). You figure that a manufacturer that can't even get consumer support in its own country is destined for something less than stellar.
BTW, as a fun fact, did you know that the Mitsubishi Eclipse was one of the WORST selling Japanese sportscars of all time in Japan?
A low-horsepower, FWD coupe was actually kind of useless in a country where the Lancer Evolution's been around since about 1992. The GSX was introduced in an attempt to court buyers, but the Lan Evo following still couldn't be persuaded
