Mech. Engineering Internships
Hey guys,
I know there are a few of you on here that are mechanical engineers. I am a mechanical engineering student at Cal Poly and am looking for a internship while I am home for the summer. I have contacted a few places, but in trying to get a good shot at finding something I figured finding a few more ideas wouldn't hurt.
Can anybody recommend any companies from past experience or better yet, anyone know of any opportunities at the companies they are currently working for?

What do you want to do? Are you looking to do Engineering design or just looking to work in an engineering environment?
I work for SRI International and there are plenty of summer internships at my company.
The group I work in is Instrumentation & Simulation Systems. We have a training system for the military and work with the guard during their last major training exercise before deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan.
If you get a summer internship in our group, you will be on travel all summer at usually 2 or 3 different training locations in the US.
You have your food, lodging and rental car paid for.
Most of our employees are Cal Poly SLO or Harvey Mudd College people.

If you can get into the super impacted Cal Poly Engineering program you will not regret it. Excellent technical education, with hands on labs.
Awesome city to live in during your college experience. Wish I could move back there.

Thanks for all replies guys. I will be sure to keep my eye out for some of the companies mentioned thus far at the job fair.
off topic: There is an informal car club called the Central Coast Car Club. It is mostly Cal Poly students, but there are handful of others from the SLO area. There are a couple of subarus including mine, but we are always looking for more. There is a smallish meet some Tuesday nights at the Starbucks near Madonna and 2+ hour group drives around once a month that end with lunch or dinner (usually we get about 8-12 cars on the drives).
Group activities/information can be found on the google group. It is a work in progress as we just switched from a facebook forum to google groups this week and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet...
