I got the samething a month ago. I just did system restore in safemode. Then, downloaded free malwarebyte to clean everything out.

 

I recommend the MS SE due to

1. Its currently free.

2. It will either install on bad machine or not.

3. When it installs on a bad machine during the.install it will update itself. Unlike my previous experience with like the McAfee enterprise edition where you can only update after the.install.

4. It just works. Period. Surprising... right? Me too... now that gets installed in every machine I touch.

 

kaspersky rescue disc its a free live cd just have to downlaod the iso from them

 

sounds like what I deal with on a daily basis, goddamn drive by attacks. most infected websites don't even know they're hosting malware.

 

Here's what i've downloaded so far:
1. Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware (i've had this for a while actually)
2. PC Tools Spyware Doctor
3. Super Anti-Spyware
4. AVG

Now i seem to have gotten rid of outstanding infections and i will run these programs daily. My system seems to be running slower than before. Is having all these programs overkill? Might there be a conflict among them?

 

From my experience, Super Anti-Spyware and Malwarebytes are very similar. Usually if I run one, the other one comes up clean.

Last time I used AVG was AVG 8.0 and it HOGGED resources like no other, so that might be why your computer is running slow.

 

+1. Also it has real time protection which is missing from a lot of free editions.

 

I found the most recent versions of AVG to be extremely bloated/memory hogging. I've been using MS Security Essentials for over a year and have been extremely happy. That, combined with malwarebytes/spybot S&D should take care of any nasty shizz.

One stupid thing not set by default is to.scan removable media. Its buried in the options tab.

so i am having some trouble of my own on what i think is some sort of malware/spyware. While using google chrome yesterday randomly a tab will appear and direct itself to some bs website. It only happened like once an hour(about 4 times in total) but still annoying. Since that time I have:
1) run MSE ( found nothing)
2)run MSE on safe mode (nothing)
3) malwarebytes regular and safe mode(nothing)
4) uninstalled chrome, and am now on firefox.
Maybe I am paranoid, but i did get one random popup after going to i-club home page. I mean once i close these pages nothing happens, its just annoying because I start to think its a virus or something. Any suggestions?

 

try safemode with networking + malwarebytes. that was the only way i was able to rip the .GB trojan off a buddies computer

 

I get the safe mode part, what do you mean by networking? And I just realized that when my parents replaced their router they never secured it, could that be causing this? Because it just happened on my iPhone, but has now stopped now that I am on my schools secured network. Hopefully I won't need to call someone.

 

Save all your pictures and files you need on a flashdrive or external hard drive then format your computer, wipe it clean and it will run like brand new. lol I've done it at least 20 times.

 

If you want to go the anti-virus route, I would suggest Kaspersky. Ive used a few of them and this one is my favorite. Worth the $60 at Frys.
