MCA (Adam Yauch) passed away.

"Beastie Boys" rapper MCA -- real name Adam Yauch -- has died.

In 2009, MCA announced he was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node (below). He has since undergone surgery and radiation therapy.

So far, it's not clear if the death is related to the rapper's battle with cancer.

Russell Simmons' website GlobalGrind.com first reported the death. We have spoken to people independently connected to the rapper who also say he is dead.

MCA co-founded Beastie Boys in 1979 with Mike D, and Ad Rock. The group has won multiple Grammys and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.

MCA became a vegan at the recommendation of his Tibetan doctors.

Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. He was 47.

Oh man... that sucks. I knew he's been fighting it for a while. That dude was so damned positive. He'll be missed BIG time.

He and the beastie boys where ground breakers in an industry that desperately needed breaking.

Yeah 2 live crew was the MAJOR no no. I remember bumping beastie, 2 live, the fat boys... all on tape on my little single speaker ghetto blaster. I'd hold the handle on my handle bars and ride around bumping it.

I blew my first sub woofer to Brass Monkey.

You want to talk about folks not wanting you to listen to that stuff. I had one friend that was in to it.... don't laugh but he was literally the only black guy in school. He was my neighbor (quarter mile away, nearest house). We'd get on the bus and I'd bust a beat (I have huge lips) and he'd rap. This was in 1987/1988.

We lived in Baldy Mesa. Talking my mom road her horse to work from time to time. My step dad was a bull rider and my mom was a bar tender at the local bar/steak house/boot and hat store. No joke... place had hitching posts outside. LOL!!!!!

I had 2 friends that were in to it. My friend Joshua if I remember correctly.. we started break dancing in 1985.

Haha so reminds me of where I grew up. Hell the kids drove tractors to school cus it was legal haha. My school was so small that k-12 we had a total of 250 student and my class alone was 50 of them and we were considered a huge class lol. We also only had one black family and one Asian kid that was adopted lol the rest were white. Very small country town.. We were a bit smart I say small bit because we used our headphones and Walkman but they caught us singing the songs lol.
