ahha... yeah, pretty much.

But yeah, the subaru auto tranny is an eggsellent one... you can shift all you want, just without a clutch. The only real disadvantage I have is I can't drag race from high RPMs... well, Justin can, cuz he has an upgraded TC... but yeah. Do whatever makes you happy, and say F' you to whoever doesn't like it. It's your car, your life, it's YOUR decision.

I'd say try driving a manual a bit longer if you can. If you still find yourself uncomfortable with driving one, then get the automatic.

My RS was my very first manual and I learned on it. Let's just say hills with traffic scare the hell out of me. However, I did like the fact that it was easier to slow down without slamming the brakes and I have more control as far as what gear to be in. Sometimes there's some dangerous situations on the road where I'd have to immediately zip out of there like some idiot swerving into my lane or something.

If I cruised the city streets for long periods of time and commute, I would have bought an automatic (again).

Oh my god! Dis-Information everywhere.

Power Dist. for the Automatic Transmission for the Subaru WRX 2002 4EAT is:

Front: 45.5%
Rear: 54.5%

Always..... Its not like the manual tranny of the wrx which is a pure 50% F/ 50% R (Correct Me If Im Wrong Here guys. Im assuming this because the lack of Variable Torque Distribution Differential)

Attaching a link to the Subaru 2002 WRX AWD Service Manual for Automatic Transmission Info.

Anyways, all this tells me that an auto "may" be faster than a normal rex at launch ^_^ btw, I drive an auto. I have a free hand to use my cellphone an driink my morning can of mountain dew.

Having both a manual and an auto, I find my self driving the auto more often. This may be because the auto is modded. I also like the auto at the drags becasue it runs very consistant times. I also have to drive in heavy traffic and is sucks to have to use my left foot. Don't get me wrong, I like to drive the manual when I'm in the mood for some control.

This may go against what some people think about me but if I were to do it again, I'd would have done a manual. It takes less cash to net the same results or for the same amount of cash it will produce a faster car.

So the question one must think is what is the primary use of the vehicle. If it's going to be a family hauler the auto fits the bill fine but if you want to make a monster the manual will be the one to pick.

I have an 03' WRX 4eat and I am very happy with it. I am getting an upgraded TC and I will be right up there with the manuals. Good luck!

I like my 4EAT, I'd like a 5MT too if I had one.

My first Impreza (2000 2.5RS) was a manual. After I got used to driving it I had a lot of fun, the clutch shudder was kinda sucky though.

Get whatever YOU want. Don't get something just because everyone says to get one. I got a lot of **** from people on here because I own a 4eat and this is supposed to be about all imprezas not just manuals or 4eats. Don't dis on other subies. BTW Miranda, if you ever want to take mine for a drive you are welcome to.

well this type of thread is been discussed sooo many time....auto vs. manual which is better? haha

well if ur going to drive a rally inspired car u should get a a/t...the subaru a/t box is more closely related to the wrc tranny box then the m/t box will ever be there was a thread some where here and it explained the difference btw a/t and m/t mechanically and not opiniated..And who says u cant controll an A/T shift??????

and from what read in all the SUBARU threads is that the 5spd is pretty weak well at least not strong enough to handle the wrx power or the aggressiveness of the driver. U dont hear much of 4eat's braking.....

from the way im writing this i sure sound like i own an a/t wrx myself...haha i do, but not because i dont know how to drive stick or any other excuses, i didnt even know that the 5spd had problems before i even bought a subaru. but because i was inpatient in waiting for the dealer to order my color and options and just took the black one they had which was an a/t (at that i time i didnt even bother) was that or the sedona red which i dont like.

also i think the driver has a lot to do with it.

because there isn't that much out there.
