Magic The Gathering or Yugioh or Pokemon
Darkonion mentioned Magic The Gathering and i've seen folks playing that at the library and on campus at DeAnza and SJSU.
Is it really that addictive?
I used to play Yugioh.. and that was a lot of fun. Is Pokemon even being played now?
Or what's the game of choice now?

I hate to say it. I love it! I dunno... I am super open to a bunch of games, from simple to complex. I especially love games where you can win in different ways.
I am a huge fan of Settlers of Catan. That's a pretty good mix of Monopoly and Risk. Munchkins was a lot of fun, also. Bang is a lot of fun, though I've seen it nearly destroy a few relationships. There are a few Zombie themed games that were a lot of fun, though a bit unbalanced.
Saboteur is a lot of fun, also, and is a super quick game. It's definitely more fun with a ton of people.

I played MtG back when it was THE game to play (90's), sold all my cards in 95(6?) down in san diego at a place called "red dwarf games" for $3000 in store credit, and $1800 in cash. Ended up buying into Games Workshop "Warhammer 40k" and ive been hooked ever since (damn game has sucked up 10's of thousands of dollars from me over the years)
But card games.... MUNCHKIN! I am the master at that game. I can rock it, even taken 2nd place at few gaming conventions (between loosing WH40k games)

A block away from game castle is channel fireball game center. It is the place to go for MTG in Santa Clara, events everyday and a pretty big playing area. My friends recently got me into MTG and I must say it is pretty addictive. I used to play 40k as well but I just don't have time for 4 hour games anymore haha

The event gives you one booster pack. You open it up, and see what you got. Then you choose from 1 of 5 theme/pre-constructed decks. Customize your deck a little bit. Then, you play a bunch of games and fill out a score card. After you play, you present the scorecard to organizer and they give you another booster pack.
Not a bad way to pick up the game in my opinion.

I was planning to do this event, but I am going up to Reno that day!

I played a lot of Magic for many years but haven't played much in the last year or so. There is a very big community on the Bay Area, particularly in the South Bay. The biggest place to play is Channel Fireball in Santa Clara but there are lots very competitive players there and even some professional players (yes, that's a real thing).
I still have lots of MTG cards. When I do play in events, it's at Illusive Comics in Santa Clara. Recently though, I mainly play Heroclix, a tabletop miniatures game featuring Marvel and DC characters and some non-comics properties. I'm a big comics fan too.

I never said I actually played.
