MacBook repair

I have a MacBook Air, that needs a new screen. Apple store quoted me 5-700 dollars over the phone.... Anyone have an alternative store you go to for repairs?
Why pay near 700 when I can get something new for about 1200. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

I'm curious, which Apple Store did you call?

Oakridge Mall... I'd DIY it but a friend told me to be careful cause these thinner macs use a lot of glue rather than screws to save space, and its more compact with less space to work around :/

what is going on with the screen? is there NO DAMAGE but DOESN'T WORK or is it cracked? is it 11" or 13"? I'm gonna tell you right now, if it has to be sent out, its gonna cost you $755. Most screen repairs are done in store.

its going to cost roughly $400 in-house repair through Apple. You can call around 3rd party repair places but that's a figure you can compare to Apple's. The Apple Store operator is never a "Genius" aka technician and usually shouldn't be tossing out any price quotes or guesses.

Do you still have apple care/waranty? If you do, it may be best to go through Apple.

Personally, I would definitely stay away from DIY job, as the glass doesn't look easy to mess with compared to the older macbook when the screen was encased by plastic.

^yeah. I'm going to get it looked at... As far as apple care I doubt it will cover user negligence... I'm going to phone a few places and hopefully get it at a good price, if not ill sell it and get and pay the difference for a new one

My coworker used to work for them, and said that the bulk of the cost if a new screen. The labor is not much. SO I think you'd be shelling $450+ no matter what due to the cost of the part.

^ yeah I called a few places an they all wanted upwards of 400... ClickAway in San Jose is going to do it for 199(parts)+99(labor) that's an awesome deal compared to the other quotes... The service dude told me that companies charge so much because the LCD widescreen on the Thinner models is very delicate when setting in place, and people screw up a lot. Down side is I have to wait about 1-2weeks.
