lost Job today :/ anybody Hiring?

Man this sucks heh, I was in the Fire life safety industry (Fire Alarm Technician). Just seeing if any iclubbers out there know of any opportunities. I really don't wanna be at home collecting an unemployment check. I'm looking to even try a new trade. Pm me if you guys hear anything please. I'm located Southbay,Married father of 2 if that info is needed lol. I'm actually considering going Military if anyone knows a cool recruiter for Army to recommend.

Sucks man. It sounds like they are pulling the majority of the forces out and cutting defense next year, last I heard, so I don't think military is a good option. A lot of big companies are projecting slow Q1-Q2 next year too. Good luck.

If you love your wife and kids, DO NOT join any branch of the military.
She will leave you and your kids will hate you.
Forever.

Whoa! Lol damn. Even if its Reserves? I been hearing comments like this from other friends who been/are in the Military but its mostly from the ones who enlisted. Ive been with my wife since we were 14yrs old in middle school, I'm 33 now and married for 7 years with 2 girls 7yr old & 3 months. it would be a hard decision I know...

You don't want to be a 33 year old E-2 anyway, unless you're thinking OCS?

Even in this economy, there are better civilian options for you. From what I can remember the reserves paid squat.

^ No degree, I sort of just went to work after HS and been working ever since (Machinists,Dispatching&Fire life safety). But I will be looking into "WestMed College" to obtain My EMT Cert. (The Military option was to help pay for this). Helping people is what I enjoy doing and I see this as a good fit.

Without a BA or BS I can't really help ya at my place.

DO NOT go to a for profit school. Most are unaccredited and the degree isn't worth the paper it's printed on (University of Phoenix). You can get the same classes at a Community College (Foothill, DeAnza, San Jose City) for 1/4 the price.

What about staying In your trade but trying to find another company? Like Seize, Costco, Johnson controls, There are a couple other big companies out there that I've seen on job sites but can't remember their names, And Its been awhile since I've worked with Fire control techs. No big commercial jobs going on for me right now So I don't have anyone In mind that I can ask If they are hiring. Maybe try stationary engineer with a local building In the southbay?
Good Luck man, I was outa work for 2.5 months earlier this year and my union Is still dead slow

EMT cert at mission will only cost you roughly 300 including supplies. Its the paramedic cert thats bank. But if you get hired as an EMT sometimes your company will help you out to cert you.
