Looking for a used golf set
18 hole golf runs about $120 and up depending on which course and if weekend or weekday. If u have a resident card, it's cheaper, about half price but also depends if it's on the weekday or weekend.
9 hole golf runs typically around $20, prices vary from weekend to weekday
Driving range, about $10 and up for 150 or so ***** to hit.

If you go for super-twilight... Last time I played I think it was anytime after 6:30, it's pretty cheap. Decent golf ***** can be pretty cheap if you know which ones to buy, however don't get rock (top) flights as they're utter trash. I normally just walk, so I don't pay the cart fees.
For something in SJ, San Jose Municipal is a pretty good course. I got my clubs custom fitted there.

As long as you go for twilight, it's pretty reasonable.
There's one other one that's a great course for beginners in SJ, though I forgot the name. It's good because it's not a hard course, but it's not exactly the best maintained so you won't have a lot of pressure from people wanting you to go faster. Other than the fact I know it's near a Raging Waters, I can't remember what it is...

golfnow.com for cheap rounds and they almost always include cart.
playing at chuck corica in alameda this saturday for $35 with cart. with chuck, you can always play more than 18. usually jump from the north to the south course and back again if i have the energy.
if you don't mind component clubs, i'd check out freegolfinfo.com swap shop for some clubs. you might be surprised what you might find.

My friend has a costco set and we went to the range. it was pretty fun. if you're a beginner or amateur, i think working on your game 1st before getting nice equipment. i'm sure like any other sport like tennis, autox-ing, basketball, baseball, it's not about what you use, but how well you can play the game. i'm prettty sure most of us won't be able to fully utilize the expensive top of the line equipemnts. just find whatever and go have fun! working on your form, technique , basic before spending on $$ mods. i'd get the costco set.

Unfortunately, equipment makes a huge difference for golf. Some clubs are easier to hit than the others. i.e. Callaways are always easy to hit. and you need to fit the shaft with your swing speed, etc.
i'd get some decent used clubs from ebay, and just get a set of iron to begin with. Build up your set slowly when you play more and have a better understanding of what you need.

^ agreed.
Buy all your stuff from ebay from a reputable seller. Clubs do matter like wm07 says. I would avoid blades or muscleback irons as a starter set.

Does anyone range on a regular basis? I go to the one off Industrial Parkway in Hayward at least once a week.
Would be cool to meet up with some folks from here.
