Looking for a used car
OMG run like hell from the Audi! My previous car was a 2001 A4... they take a major crap on you right around 60K miles. DON'T DO IT!! I was spending upwards of $1,000 every 6-8 wks just to keep it running. It broke so much (and I was consequently taking it to the shop so much) that I am now good friends with my mechanic and hang out with him on a regular basis since I have a Subie and would never see him otherwise
Vacuum leaks, oils leaks, ABS control module problems, wheel sensor problems, ECU problems... you name it, it had it. I was very good about maintaining the car but it didn't make a difference- it broke all the time anyway. My neighbors also bought an A4 (2002, I think) and they have tons of electrical issues with their car.

Keep the posts coming! I'm planning to sell the GR around April-May, so I too will look for a cheap DD in a few months. My budget might be a tad lower though.
Is AWD/4WD a requirement? If not, Honda's seem to be safe bets.
Regarding the Audi, I've spent a little time going through the threads at audizine. I noticed there's lots of things that will eventually break on the B5 and B6 A4's, but they seem to have a DIY for everything. So if you're good with car DIY's (unlike me, LOL), and do preventative maintenance, it's not THAT bad....I think.
My buddy with a B5 A4 2.8V6 has replaced a window regulator and control arm(s?). He might have the ABS module issue too, if I remember correctly.
Anyone here with experience on BMW Z3's? I've always had a desire for that car, but haven't done any research whatsoever.
To the OP:
Miata
S2000 (over budget)
2.5RS or any other NA Subaru (might be over budget?)
Legacy

Isn't that what they normally refer to as saabaru's? I see a bunch of those at Tahoe when I go snowboarding...I'm guessing they're just as reliable?
