Looking for a laptop!

So im in the market for my first laptop & well it looks like 19 - 20 inch laptop with SLi gpus are pretty much outta the question after all the numbers are crunched... all of them break the $3k mark... want to spend something less than $3k

Primary usage:
1. Complete desktop replacement
2. basic computing crap.
3. WoW
4. portability is necessary but not a priority.
the Pro star 5724 is nice for the price! the price noted here is lacking some of the options i'd throw on there but it ends up $2600 or so.

but i was also looking at the Dell XPS 1710 which gets kinda pricey when optioned out...

the Alienware one was just ludicriously priced for what you get (gimped single processor, meh gpu) but im not sure what other alternatives i've got!

The Voodoo laptop was even worse than the Alienware hahah hard to imagine but true!

I'd appreciate any advice you guys got! TIA!

whats going on steve?
i was recently forced to get a laptop for school
if the only game you are gonna play on the thing is just wow - i think you'd be fine with nearly any laptop these days, even ones with intregrated video.
that being said, if i were to do things all over again, i'd get a macbook with windows xp

If you are fine with getting something used, try Dell Outlet for the 1710. I picked up my 1210 there for a grand off the regular price. I was even able to haggle a warranty after I got it as well. You can always find some 10-20% off dell outlet coupons as well, just time it right and you save a bunch.

I'd recommend the 1710 though, you'll be more than happy with it. I run WoW pretty well on my 1210 with the 256 vid and only 1 gig of RAM.

MacBook Pro all the way. You get all the iGoodies with it. Down load bootcamp for free and install Windows XP and SLAME! you got a PC if you want to play any PC games.

And when I say install Windows XP, yes that means you have a fully functional PC computer. So basically now you can have both. Mac and PC

3k is a huge budget for a laptop these days.

17" Macbook Pro's are amazing. AMAZING.

MacBook = Built by Asus.

I had an Asus M5n laptop before I got an ibook, then a macbook.

I love my macbook, but if you need a PC with two buttons, get a dell or asus.

Once you get your laptop, i'd recommend using a spare keyboard that connects via usb port to save ur keys if your going to play wow on it.

I didn't and my "b" button broke on my acer, i guess i checked my inventory one too many times.
