I don't understand why people have to get brand new cars with the wonderful 20% depreciation off the lot drop-off.
That lady deserves her predicament especially when she knew she couldn't afford the car but still signed the lease. Hell for the $30k down payment she could have bought a used M3 E46 and be happy with a slightly older car. Even with all the repairs she still wouldn't owe $1300 a month for 3-6 years on most standard leases.

Yeah of course we all KNOW that's the smart thing. Growing up it's not like parents are stupid and raised us with bad values.
But one day in life in your mid-late 20s you drive by a BMW dealership or see a brand new M3 and go "damn I can still pass for a college kid yet I could comfortably afford that now" even though you don't do it you'll be mighty tempted.
Now this woman is stupid plain and simple, but it's one thing to be frugal if you are in a frugal environment and surrounded by frugal people, it's another thing to be frugal as resisting the temptation to be balling out of control
