Little help with the CVC...

Hey all, I need some help finding out whether or not it's legal to drive a vehicle on hghways/roads if it has no hood or bumper. I couldn't find much in the CVC, so any help would be apprieciated.

Yea, I know it sounds ghetto, just hook me up, TIA!

Probably could be subject to citation under:

Vehicle Not Equipped or Unsafe

24002. (a) It is unlawful to operate any vehicle or combination of vehicles which is in an unsafe condition, or which is not safely loaded, and which presents an immediate safety hazard.

(b) It is unlawful to operate any vehicle or combination of vehicles which is not equipped as provided in this code.

Amended Ch. 696, Stats. 1992. Effective September 15, 1992.

Section B would include the bumper, but it probably depends- are you talking about transit to get those things fixed? or just cruising around with the front end taken apart?

Explaining its in the process of getting fixed might get you off, but making a habit of it isn't only ghetto, it is worthy of a citation

Nah, I'm in the market for an older 240sx hatch, and one of the first things I was planning on doing was slapping on a s13 JDM conversion to make it a Sil-80. I'm talking to a guy right now selling one pretty cheap, the only problem is it has no hood or fender (I said bumper, but I double checked and it's the passenger side fender)

Oh, and I thought 24002(b) was for, say, dirt bikes on highways? Or rather, vehicles lacking required saftey equipment like headlights, turn signals, etc. I may be wrong, though. I'm still looking myself

I was. Something's I just never bothered to look up, though. I guess since it's not expressly written up anywhere, that it's technically legal. Oh well, if I get a ticket I'll jus have my friends write it off
