tire wear depends a lot also on if you break the tires in or not
oh, and "the italian wants it melted!!!" (if "doodoobrown" isnt what I think its from, thats gonna make no sense)

no rhyme or reason for my screenname -- it was just a nickname I gave to my dog a while back. When I registered for i-club years ago, it was the only name I could come up with.

The RE01R are alwsome. Dry grip is somewhat close to DOT-R tires. It has stiff sidewalls but the ride is surprisingly better than the RE070s which the STi came with. The grip is better than the RE070 and less noisy. The Yokohama ADVANs are just a bit better than the RE01Rs but more expensive. I still have ~6/32 left in tread even after 2 track events.

1 day later, mold release scrubbed off, the MXs seem to be pretty good tires. PSI at 38F/36R now. NVH about the same as the Hankook RS2s that were on before. Not as grippy as the RS2s, but I'm assuming it will get better as they wear down.
I can't help thinking that I should have purchased the RT615s though... Oh well, maybe 1.5 yrs from now.

Falken has plenty of the RT-615s, and is still making them.
Of the "Ultimate Street" tires right now (S03, RS-2, RT-615, etc) in WRX/STI type sizes (i.e. 225/45R17,. 245/45R17, 245/40R17, 255/40R17) the grippiest of them all would be the Yokohama Advan Neova AD07. Bridgestone RE01R is shortly behind. The RS-2, RT-615 are sort of in the next "tier", MX, Goodyear GS-D3 and S03 below that (although the S03 has as good of WET traction as any of them).
Trust me, as an autocross type running in the ST classes, you quickly figure out what works and what doesn't in a given size

How are the sidewalls on the MX's? Not too much body roll or sidewall flexing?
I can't decide on these two either, I might go with the MX's just because they might last longer. I want something that's going to last for more than 10k

The MX definately has more sidewall flex than the RT615s (I compared the two, unmounted at the tire shop). But upping the PSIs from the stock subaru specs is supposed to help with this.
As for tread life, note that the MXs start off at 9/32", whereas RT615s start w/ 8/32" tread depth.
I'd also consider the Hankook RS2s. I had these before the MXs and I loved them. If I didn't need the tires ASAP, I would have ordered these again.

can anyone tell me why TireRack doesnt have the majority of these "autoX" level tires we're talking about? and why so many people sport the "Tire Rack" banner across their windsheild?
The AutoX tires they do have are mad expensive, unless you find a closeout special price
But their shipping fast (Reno i think) and is cheaper than most, but that goes out the window with their prices
