Is landlord required to keep up back yard?

Hey there. I have 4 foot tall weeds filling my sandy back yard. They had asked me to water. The place I'm renting has totally screwed piping in the backyard, wasn't able to water anything so everything died right after blooming. Was told it'd be replaced never was. so I decided not to put any effort into the backyard, why would I.

Well I've been away for a month and the weeds have grown beyond belief.
Is it their responsibility not to let weeds fill the entire yard 4 feet high?

Now they want to take it out of my security deposit.

Check your lease. It depends on the lease and your agreement with the landlord.

My place for example is on a pretty good chunk of property. I was doing all the upkeep and then the landlord offered to have it done for $125 a month. Turned out to be a waste of money because they weren't doing it. My landlord paid me back for ALL of the money I'd paid and we struck a deal. I take care of around the house and 6 feet off the drive way. The rest is up to him.

Any tall stuff or super gnarly stuff that requires heavy equipment he takes care of. It's a liability for them to have me out there on ladders with chainsaws and ****.

So I'd call the landlord. Usually they have to do it at least twice a year for fire protection.

If it goes to long PGE will file a complaint and you'll be screwed. That happened to me a couple years ago.

So... call your landlord. Work something out. Usually they'll send someone out once or twice a year as long as you keep up on what's reasonable.

oh.... and I literally had some weeds that were OVER 8 feet tall. LOL!

Yeah I figured this qualified as fire danger. Except I'm in Marina, my backyard is sand.

Yeah this is asking them to do it once a year, seems reasonable to me. They haven't done anything else. Bastards. Also my lease is up Aug, so it will have to be done anyway?

If I was you I would check my lease and talk to them to figure it out before I had to negotiate the return of my deposit.

Doesn't matter. Has to be a certain distance from your house and your property line. Think it's 10 feet.

If you have proof you put in the request for repairs (email, text, letter) and they never took care of it. Then they shouldn't penalize your security deposit.

yeah I just gotta get one. The main thing I care about is my dog not getting stick tights. Coming from east bay so sucks i have to get it ready right away rather than relax after I get there.

The thing that really gets me is when I rented it the yard was turdified, with the agreement to clean it up. The guy weeded most of it, but didn't clear the **** just left it out there. Also there was a compost heap, that turned about to really be a trash pile full of old glass metal wood nails actual trash.

Also they never hooked up my garage door opener. What dicks.

go out there, clean that weeds up as they're requesting, and then write them a nice letter requesting those other things be done (garage door, etc), as promised upon move in, that were never completed.

If you've already done that stuff, then send them the bill for it....should be about $225, eh?
