Yea, 101 sucks when you're in the single lane parts and you're stuck behind some big rigs.

+1 for 101 sucking serious *****. The only decent part is the fifty miles or so around Hearst Castle which is very pretty. Other then that it's deadly boring.

Taking the 5 between 12am-6am should leave the road wide open to yourself therefore getting to your destination faster.. time is money , gas is money.

Drove to SD and back in one day by my self on 5, i do not reconded that! Most of the traffic was flowing at 80-85 other than the trucks. For a while i was on the limited of my contour (110) which really drains the gas, go figure. But as I pull into the gas station to get gas, 5 patrol cars come in off the free way and talk to some truckers and take off, needless to say I was scared silly. And I just did the limit the rest of the way home. So get a radar dector, alot of 5 is wide open, so you can see anyone from a distance away. Have fun, drive smart.

What's up Kev. I'm actually up in the bay right now. I usually stick to the 5 fwy. I want the quickest route possible, so that's what I usually take. When I did take the 101, I think I saw more chp than on the 5. Plus you can you can cruise at some good speeds when taking that long boring drive. Anyway, have a safe trip...

that's seriously good gas milage for a turbo car. I get about 420 on a tank to LA in my RS.

I don't have cruise control though.

hey thanks for the response guys. i'm in the east bay right now(Walnut Creek). i decided to take the 5fwy, i wasn't in the mood to try a new route. i'll have to check out the 101 sometime just for the experience. my Escort 8500 X50 works very well . anyways, off topic... i was able to pull 314.7 miles with 2.9 gallons left before i filled up. so i got about 24mpg with JDM 6mt ratios!!!
