Red face KISS: Knock's Infuriating Swap Saga

Hello everybody!

I've been in and out of this forum for a bit over the years, since my '01 swapped 2.5 RS brought me into this great community. Bought the car in 2007 with one of the first JC sports turbo kits (went 45k!! according to the reciepts) and promptly blew the ringlands to hell. Built up a closed deck ej22 stroker that I picked up, beat to crap, but decided to swap in an 07 wrx motor instead. A more reliable choice, but also an exercise in doyle's, err murphy's law.

All was well and good, put around 5k on the stock 4.11 5 speed, then bam I blew out first gear at the wednesday night drags. Crap. I then found some beat *** legacy for 500, and bought it up for parts. Somehow I lucked out since it had a 3.90 LSD rear diff, wrx seats, and a closed deck ej20g woot! Soon thereafter I scrapped the rest of that monster and got to pull it's card at the recyclers.

Another 15k, thousands of dollars, and at least an ounce of knuckle flesh, I manage to break first gear on the legacy 5 speed. Last week. :\

3800 of credit card debt later there's a 6 speed bolted up and running behind the wrx motor. Holy crap, my car is now everything I ever wanted when I first bought it, and 'Ol Murphy tells reminds me that I am unemployed with Maybe $200 to my name, living with mom, and a school tab coming due June 26.

Here's where I gotta ask my Bay Subie people: should the car stay or should the car go?

There's really only two options here. I can pull the 18 year old and get my parents to bail me out like GM and lose face, or I can man up and cash out on this car but drink that bitter *** life juice.

I'd rather man up and get my financial things together. I'd rather not have my parents bail me out of thousands upon thousands of debt. That'll haunt me for the rest of my life even if I did pay them back someday. My folks will always bring that up for as long as we're all alive, "Hey son, you remember that time we loaned you a bunch of money?"

You can always build a new car, but a rep with your parents is the hardest thing to repair, man.

I say let your parents bail you out, IF it's not going to hurt their own finances. If that is the case, take the money, bust your butt in school, and get a good paying job after. Save up and pay your parents. If you can, get them something nice to show your appreciation -- like airfare for a vacation or something.

However, if you think it can possibly affect their finances, then it is time to man up and let the car go. Like somebody said earlier, the option to have a project car will always be open later in life.

I think I know what you're going through, as I sold my STi just a couple weeks ago. While I'm not really in any sort of financial trouble, certain things just are higher in the priority list. While I get jealous everytime I see an STi on the road (especially 08+), I just tell myself that I can have one again later on.
