Does anyone have a Dyson? My wife wants to get one... but I just can't see spending $4-500 or however much it is.

The Rainbow one is cool but it's a ***** to put together. It's a water based vacuum so it sucks all the dirt and DUST into the water and traps it all.

Pops used to bring those kirby and hoovers because their bag/filter system is the weakness. Try this at home guys. Take a bright lamp and shine it on your vacuum while you vacuum your carpet. Shine it on the bag/box/filter where the dirt comes in and watch how much dust escapes.

Peep those Rainbow vacuums out. Especially people with allergies and stuff like that.
I remember one of my co-workers burning up a rainbow by sucking up some talcum powder... i think if the material was too fine the rainbow would burn itself out, or possibly even a fluke when he killed it...

I want the DC14 Dyson Animal. I've talked with a few people who own them and say they are amazing. I'm hoping to get one for or after Christmas.

That was before the hepa craze. Now, kirby and others make hepa rated bags that hold a ton, and are super cheap. I haven't heard anything about the hepa rating on a dyson....anyone?

can someone explain how the dyson works with keeping dust in the machine, and then when emptying it what happens to the dust?

The dyson is a marketing managers dream. Lots a of plastic, pretty colors, and foriegn. It costs lots of money for all of those TV commercials. Who do you think is paying for it?

Don't forget, cheap colorful plastic never breaks. Anybody who pays that much for a vacuum and isn't cleaning houses for a living should be slapped.

haha, yeah I used to sell Kirbys when I was 19 living up in Seattle, dont think I made any money but it was a fun job. Yeah those Kirby's will suck the butt out the cat!(guy I worked with always said that) I wouldnt pay any of what we sold them for back then, I think $1599, but I would def pick one up if I could find one for a couple hundred, that carpet shampoo attachment works WAY better than those rug doctors you rent at the store

My girlfriend recently bought a Kirby. When I came home and found out how much she paid, I flipped. I went upstairs to do a little ebaying and googling and 5 minutes later, the Kirby rep was back at our house knocking about 50% off the price. Which was still a lot of money for a vacumn (me having never bought a vacumn in my life). And then I used it. Bad ***. And it's a frickin transformer. It's more power tool than cleaning apparatus. It's a man's vacumn. I doubt I would ever buy one myself but I aint complaining that we have one....

I'm not going to read all the replies, but we had a Kirby vac when I was growing up and that thing was bulletproof. My mom still uses it today. If you want a vac to last a lifetime, Kirby is your man.

On the other hand... I know have an Oreck XL. It doesn't have all the attachments and ****, but for a straight vacuum, it's teh bomb.
