Keep you distance behind this idiot
At lunch today I'm driving south on San Pablo Ave, coming up on University when apparently the car in front of this van;

decides to parallel park, of course asshat here was following too closely and needs to get out of the way...
what does he/she do?
1) look over his shoulder at the other lane and see if he can go around?
no...
2) maybe look behind to see if its safe to back up?
no, still not the right answer-
******** here just drops it into reverse (I'm thinking- like James Dean's last words "he's got to see me, right?".... WRONG) and backs right into my front bumper.
Then, further demonstrating to me and the world that they are a nothing less than a total and complete idiot, they drive off as if nothing happened.
Well here's a license plate, and this story of idiocy is now on the internets for all to see
So if you come up behind this jerk, give them a little extra room and don't be afraid to lay into the horn when you see those white lights come on

The impact was slow enough and I let off the brakes just as I got hit, so there isn't really any damage, and I'm pretty sure Berkeley cops have better things to spend their time on.
I figured a good public humiliation would be enough.
Funny I had always heard that car had mysteriously disappeared back in the 60's
So you are telling me this is just a myth? and it's busted?;
"The mishaps surrounding the car continued until 1960, when the Porsche was loaned out for a safety exhibit in Miami, Florida. When the exhibit was over, the wreckage, en route to Los Angeles on a truck, mysteriously vanished. To this day, the "Little Bastard's" whereabouts are unknown. "

"When the Porsche was near Salinas, the vehicle transporting it was involved in a serious accident. The impact was so great that truck driver, George Barhuis, was thrown from the cab. In response, the Porsche rolled off the truck bed, landed on top of him and literally crushed him to death, claiming another victim.
Despite the latest tragedy, the exhibit was, nevertheless, popular. People came in droves to see the James Dean car, and the owner, George Barris (a name that's amazingly similar to that of the car's second victim) decided that the tour would extend to the other states as well.
Of course, there would be another accident.
On September 30, the anniversary of Dean's death, a fifteen-year-old boy became the car's next victim. He was standing about twelve to fifteen feet away from the exhibit, probably staring at it in shock and awe, when three bolts suddenly snapped as if broken by spectral hands. The boy screamed as the car plowed forward and ran over him. Both of the boy's legs were horribly crushed, but he survived.
The next victim would not be so lucky.
A few weeks later the death car was again being transported when it caused yet another mishap. This time, it literally snapped in two, slid from the flatbed of the truck, and met the gray pavement. The wreckage caused another fatal accident before it could be cleared from the roadway.
In 1960, the owner, had finally had enough, and he decided to have the Porsche shipped back home to California for a permanent retirement. The car was loaded into a boxcar in Florida, the door carefully sealed. When the train arrived in LA, the seal on the boxcar door was still intact...yet the Porsche was missing! "

As far as we can tell the spyder was restored and sold in the 90s. In 1998 our customers at my old shop (Veloce Motors) Bob and Danny Baker bought it for $450K and had us prep it to run at the Monterey historics. Though I guess I cannot say myself if its 'the one', they seemed pretty certain about it and as serious collectors I tend to trust their judgment,

But even if it does have some ties to his, I can't imagine that much at all was actually salvagable,

and supposedly the motor and gearbox went to other cars, so unless they have those parts back with matching numbers
Serial Number- 550-0055
Engine Number- 90059
Gear Box Number- 10046
I would think your guys must have either a replica or one of the other original 550's, -still easily worth that much money.
