Haven't fitted both, but the Kartboy works very well, especially with the corresponding bushings (including the TiC shifter bushing). Nicely made, takes under an hour to fit the lot and it's night and day over the stocker.

My car came with the STi short shifter, which has shorter linkage pieces. I went with the TIC supershifter and I couldn't be happier!

My 07 came with the STi SS. I dont know the difference in the two because i never drove a car with the kartboy SS. Plus i never drove with a SS before so to me i like it over stock but dont know others to compair to.

Here's my understanding of it: the STi factory short shifter is a complete linkage. The shifter will stay the same height while shortening the throw.

The Kartboy shifter is the lever and fulcrum, which will reduce the height of the gear **** to make the throw shorter.

Yep. Shifter sits lower with the Kartboy than stock (or, I guess, the STI SS). I was concerned about that when I first fitted it but rapidly grew accustomed to the change. It's the only thing that I've done to the car that my wife actually noticed, and commented on as a positive change.

Fitting is easy: if you have a socket set and a dead blow mallet (or a hammer and a bit of wood to sit atop the shifter) you're good to go, including the bushings underneath. Figure on about an hour if you're doing the bushings too, since you have to put the car on jackstands. Figure about 20 minutes for just the shifter. A good "first mod" -- nothing complicated in the process.

I have the OEM short shift kit, with the Kartboy full set-up. Very nice, short and notchy.

That rear bushing is a little tricky to install without a super long extension.

As a note there is a little bit more vibration/noise that comes through the kartboy shifter & bushings, but nothing louder exhaust , music on, stiffer suspension road noise, windows down, conversation will not cure.

A couple of rags and the palm of your hand works as well. It's all in the angle.
