Just Moved
Hello:
Just moved from Texas to San Jose. BTW i have a 04 STI, I have a few questions:
1) Where to get oil change done and car maintainence done.
2) How does 91 octane work? Is it ok.. this must be beaten to death but
3) Are there any manual car wash where they allow personal bucket I will use their water etc.. only my soap.
Thanks,
Dinar

1. if you cant do it yourself,
santa cruz subaru,
livermore subaru,
carlsen subaru (redwood city)
albany subaru
in no particular order or preference, although albany has service til 12 midnight!
2. it works fine. it's ok. and yes it has... lol....
3. all of them say NO BUCKET WASHING... but hey it's your dime.

Oil changes are super easy... if you want, I can teach you. I live in San Jose myself.
91 octane is ok, if you're afraid that you need higher octane, there are a few 100 octane 76's around. Or... if you aren't afraid to use toluene, use that too.
And lastly: Wash at your own house? Use 2 buckets, a clean bucket and a dirty water bucket. Using the second bucket with clean water helps prevent swirls via the rinse of the sponge in the dirty bucket, then in the clean bucket.

You prolly know about these things...but there are places that have high preasure water/soap guns and foaming brushes to wash cars. They take quarters. They work ok (I still like using the bucket method). But you could bring soap and a bucket and then just use the water as a water hose...it'd be less quarters that way too.

BTW, oil changes couldn't be any easier on the Subie. I HIGHLY suggest you get a Fumoto Valve to replace your drain plug. It is by far the best mod I've ever done. Makes oil changes take like 10mins.

Steven's Creek is pretty bad. Even their stuff at the parts department costs more. I called about oil filters for the STi... 13 bucks... that's without the drain plug gasket... they wanted 1.50 for the gasket. Carlsen Subaru, I think was 10 bucks or something with gasket. Marginally better.
No problem, pm me your number when you get it. I just got myself a fumoto valve and I have a few oil filters coming in to sit in my garage. Easy peasy .
