Just got an AR lower - need build advice!
Just picked up one of these lowers w/o the engraving filled in with white.
SNS Industries Skull rifle receiver:

I want to get a flat top upper that I can put a decent scope on, and have a heavy barrel to reduce heat build-up. I truthfully don't know that much about this platform, so I am looking for advice.
I don't want to spend another $1,500 on it, but I don't want to spend $500 and get cheap crap parts either.
Any ideas and suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

It really depends on what direction you want to go with. I like the CMMG gas piston upper, it'll run around 700ish for the M4 variant (with the m4 feed ramps) 16" barrel. The gas pistons are a lot cleaner and require less maintenance. Its a flat top as well.

No, I wish. Another 1500 as in that amount in addition to what I gave for the lower.
As far as direction, I am having a hard time deciding between a heavy barrel varmint style barrel similar to the mini-14 I built and regrettably sold, or more tactical style upper with a flash hider, etc. Realistically I'm leaning toward the tactical style for versatility.

you can make a tack driver and still have a fairly shory barrel. ive got one of mine w/16" shootin better than 1/2" groups at 250yards. to have a accurate rifle the barrel is only a small part. he correct ammo, proper break in,smooth action all play a big part in accuracy. check out midway usa. they always have smokin deals on random *** parts. i built a entire AR using their sales only and came in under 700.

Although I'm still not sure if I want to fork out the money for a freefloat rail. I may just get a normal rail. Would make the upper a lot cheaper.

I have a bushmaster that is on the banned list in CA that I keep in WA, what did you have to give for the lower? I'd like to purchase an off list lower so I could legally have an AR here.

I had all sorts of cool stuff when I lived up there, because the gun laws are actually reasonable. No FFL involvement between private sales, etc. I sold most of it in the interest of paying for school, but in most cases I wish I had not. Additionally, I was ((thisclose)) to buying a Bushmaster AR when the so-called Federal 'assault weapons' ban sunsetted a few years back. The gun shop I used to frequent was selling a few of them with the "Law Enforcement Use Only" stamp on the lower, which became moot - at least in WA state - after the ban was null and void.
