I have gotten called every year for the past five. Previous to that it was sporatic.

I go in for a day, sometimes I have just had to call. I still haven't gotten chosen, yet. Never had to go in more than one day.

Oh, Fed, state, and county.

Since I am a volunteer (alameda county search and rescue), I don't have to do jury duty

GETTING OUT OF JURY DUTY - EXCUSES IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO SERVE
After receiving your summons, you may determine that you are not in a position to serve and need to get out of jury duty. If you have a compelling reason, you can ask to get out of jury duty by writing the court. This may allow you to avoid the call-in process altogether. Exemptions for getting out of jury duty are generally given for the following reasons:

You are a volunteer firefighter, rescue squad member or ambulance crew member.

I guess that is one small nice thing for being an unpaid professional/volunteer

Fixed. They pull from your DMV record, not voter registration.

yea, when i was in the court room i started thinking it wouldn't work because you'll probably get questioned on what you're studying. then you'll probably just get asked to not give your comments on what you know about the law with the other jurors.

i think it's fun if you don't have work or anything else to do. i feel like i made a difference after being a juror.

don't count on being able to use your cellphone! for example, redwood city's jury room is underground and there was no signal, though they do have free wi-fi.
word! and thank god for free wifi

sorry for jinxing you. if you become a juror just be honest. don't be afraid of letting the judge and lawyers know you are bias.

I haven't been called in a year or so, but prior to this past year I got the notice every year for five or six years. Never had to sit trial though (knock on wood).

Last time I got called in, I told them I was a student and had to reschedule for my next break. So i do and when I go in during my break, the judge says that the trial will go on for 1.5 weeks. I only had 1 week off so they made me reschedule again. I asked the clerk about it and he said he'd schedule me for Dec. 26, since the court was officially open but all the judges were on vacation. Never did get another notice for that cycle.
